So I sleep with a gun. So what?

I had an idea in my head when I woke this morning. That’s nothing new, but I think this was a cool idea, and that’s kind of rare.

I wonder what you can tell about a person by the things they keep near them when they sleep? That is what I want to know today. When you lie in bed and stretch out your arms, what items do you have in arms reach? What do you have close to you when you sleep? I’m talking about things on nightstands, in nightstand drawers, under the bed, in the head board, etc.

I’ll go first.

Objects that are within easy reach of my bed when I lie in it:

cell phone (doubles as a backup alarm clock)
alarm clock
voice recorder
vaseline intensive care moisturizing lotion
clean terry cloth hand towel
Assorted styles/flavors of condoms
mini maglight
Glock 30
breath mints
Brita water bottle
air conditioner remote control
rolled up socks (for throwing at the cat)

(gasp) Hi ya Methodman (bats eyes)

My nightstand is small, so I'll include what's in the 2 drawers beneath as well.

On top - unique glass leopard lamp, 3 cell phones, coaster for drink, 1 zebra-striped candle.

Drawer 1 - 9mm, small pkg of tissue, flashlight, remote control.

Drawer 2 - toy(s) of the week (I keep the rest in a locked trunk at the foot of the bed), astroglide, and a .38.

No alarm clock needed. I no longer sleep.

Let's see. On my husband's side of the bed, (so I move a lot at night when I'm sleeping) the nightstand has the alarm clock and the drawers have his t-shirts. Although, I think I wear those shirts more than he does.

My side of the bed
On top of the nightstand: a glass of water, unmatched socks and random paper
First drawer: spiral notebook, checkbook, vibrating dildo, vibrator to fit on my finger, small bottle of lube, some more random papers
Bottom drawer: it's empty.

I have the two kids that love to go through mommy's drawers, and I don't approve of guns, so sorry 5, no gun here.

Telephone, voice mail messaging machine, lamp, alarm clock, (4)remote controls--don't ask, Avon silcone glove hand cream, udder butter lotion, "huggy" pillows, ruger, books, porn , toys, objects d' art, emery board, Puffs tissues, and DENTAL FLOSS (and you'll find that if I don't have access to dental floss I get cranky)

I see some of you guys go to bed litterally armed to the teeth. You must know some really nasty women. May I suggest adding some handcuffs to your inventory.

I use to have all kinds of weapons around, but then I got married and figured that it was more likey that I would be shot by my wife than an intruder, after all I live in LA. Why make it easy? My Glock 30 now stays in my locked briefcase. Now I just have an alarm clock, a 6 cell mag light (field proven by the LAPD) and an earthquake preparedness bag under the bed. Sure I still worry about home invasion and such but I will just use my silver tongue to drive the intruders into a state of semi-conciousness and then take advantage of them (if you have read my blog you will know what I mean). I find this non-lethal method is also effective in dealing with non-inturders into the bed room.

JDLA2, I probably don't need the gun anymore, but it's a habit. I lived in a very bad neighborhood in my old town, and I had a lot of problems with the locals, drunks and meth-heads mostly. The landlord wouldn't let me put a dead bolt on the door for some reason. I was in an upstairs apartment and the door was down stairs. Anyone with a butter knife could pop the door open without me ever hearing it upstairs. I had some "alarms" rigged up that woke me up if anyone can calling unexpectedly.

I chased people out of my house more than once, and I just got in the habit of having the pistol by the bed where I could get my hand on it when I needed it. I used to have a really nice surefire tactical light, but it got stolen and i never got around to spending another $400 for a replacement.

I lent my handcuffs to DT..

Its funny now but for years after I got out of the army I would awake instantly on full alert to any unusual sound, grab my gun and begin silently clearing rooms and peering suspiciously out of windows, much to the terror of who ever was in my bed. Now I could sleep through practically anything, My warrior days now long over so I can finnaly get some sleep.

ok...I'll play....

on empty side of bed.....everything but the kitchen sink. (bills, notebooks, pens, pencils, overnight bag with spare everything just in case, 4 of the 7 pillows, an auto repair book for the damn cadillac that needs repair).

night stand....ashtray, a beer, superglue (don't ask), a big ass cell phone from the early 80's, I think (w/ charger), a sleek and appropriately sized home phone, TV remote (often found on the so-called empty side of the bed), blistex, electric pencil sharpener and an alarm clock still flashing from loss of power during the storm in ummmm.......well, months ago.

Shelf beside bed......a basket full of candles, ben-wa balls (for decorative purposes only ~ I'd never stick something up there that isn't attached to something easily reached. i.e. a body, a string, a wire.....), The Relax Deck (that's what they're called...they're meditation cards...someday I should check em out), an ancient bottle of Sake and cups to go with it, cool chopsticks, incense, a huka, several "boxes" from around the world, and of course 3 stuffed camels.....(singing ~ "memories.....light the"....well you know)

The shelf beside my bed is, like, 5, I'll just say lot's of cool junk is within my reach....

Now you all know what a cluster%&@#$ my room is.

Yagotta get it soft and wet so we can kick/stick it

yagotta, my bedroom in my old town was about like yours. If I'd ever taken time to settle in here, it would be the same.

you know, they do make ben wa balls that are attached...
