Religious Posers Piss Me Off

I do not have easy access to a fully stocked kitchen at the moment. All of my meals come from restaurants. This afternoon as I traveled from one restaurant to another, searching in vain for someplace that was both open for business and not packed to the rafters with people, it occurred to me that I really would have liked living in ancient Rome ‒ not latter day Rome ‒ I’m talking about the first days of the empire.

Back in those days, I’ll bet a guy could find someplace to eat in peace on Sunday, because those pesky Christians were afraid to show their faces. Hell, talk about a change; instead of going out and watching Christians eat, I could go out to the arena and watch them get EATEN by lions and tigers and bears ‒ oh, my!

But I don’t live in old times. I live in today, in a wonderful stretch of country called “the Bible Belt.” Lucky me. It’s 12:30 PM on Sunday. 2 out of five restaurants are closed, because it’s the Lord’s day of rest. The other 3 out of 5 restaurants are filled to overflowing with people that just got out of church. I see them, a teeming mass of flesh, stuffing their faces like righteous little piggies, secure in the fact that they are good people, when I know a significant percentage of them are ignorant hypocrites. BAH! Go home and… pray or something. Make room and let a pagan eat, for goodness sake!

Griping and bitching aside, I have no problem with people believing in God. I respect genuine faith and the search for truth, regardless of the path a person may take. But I cannot stand it when people get in my face and have the nerve to tell me I am wrong and they are right, especially when they cannot even think for themselves well enough to defend their own faith. Let me explain that better:

I have no problem with a person who chooses to follow any specific faith because they have studied the religious writings, thought about its lessons, and decided that is the best way for them to live their lives. I may not agree with their decision, but I do respect it. I can talk to these people about their faith and doctrine because I know we can learn from each other.

I have no patience for a person who follows a God simply because that is what everyone around them does - the people who only know what they are told in church, the ones who rely on another person to tell them what and how to believe. These people are idiots, the blindly faithful, and they are the ones that make organized religion so dangerous. They are like programmable zombies. They believe what they are told to believe, and they do what they are told. America is full of people like this, although more and more of them listen to TV more often than preachers. I will mess with these people. I love to make them question themselves. I love to show them that they have no idea what they are talking about. Given the chance, I will destroy their faith entirely. I’ll talk them into questioning the very fabric of reality if I can. I’ll make them think the Bible is a fairy tale told to grown up children like themselves just to keep them in line. I figure they are better off to be confused and questioning than to be blindly accepting.

The only ones who are worse than the zombies are the hypocrites that only pretend to believe, the ones that go to church to be seen, not to study and worship, like the guy I knew who always showed up to church ten minutes late so he was “forced” to explain the huge money deal that made him late and also had to park his new BMW right by the street for everyone to see. I enjoy exposing hypocrisy when I can. It makes my day.

In summary, if you follow your faith because you made a conscious and educated choice to do so, you and I will be able to co-exist, and we might even like each other, as long as you can respect my decision not to believe as you do. If you follow your faith just because it’s what you were raised to believe, or because that is what all your friends believe or because some charismatic holy person sold you on their doctrine, you will not like me very much by the time I am done with you. If you are a poser just going through the motions because it’s expected or because you like to be seen as a religious person, you will probably hate me by the time I am done with you.

Regardless of who you are or what you believe, before you have the nerve to tell me that I am living wrong, you damn well better be very prepared to defend your views and faith.

Oops... I'm not sure if I'm guilty of this or not...and I hope by now you know I wouldn't dream of forcing religion on you..(or just for the record..anyone else)....but I have used some Buddhist philosophy a time or 2 in a few of your other posts as well as a time or 2 in Trav's blog. I never cared for "traditional--organized religion" I always found it to be extremely hypicritcal. I would like to share something sorta funny that just happened to me 2 days ago...

I was just about ready to walk out my door to go to work....when there was a knock at the door. I answered it..and there was a man and a woman standing there...and she says "we'd like to talk to you about Christianity and God..." but before she could finish... I very politely stated that I follow a Buddhist practice... and closed the door... Then I hear... "HETHAN"...HEATHEN?? hell I don't even know how to spell it... lol.

Now imagine that... from so called Christians.... huh? Thus... the reason I follow something more based on "what goes round, comes around"... good ol Karma.

If I've ever offended you...please make sure you let me know...and I will "tone" it down and make it as generic as I can and hopefully still convey what ever message I hope to make in support of whatever it is being shared. your's truly...the Heathen...Slide {=}

~~~ Just me, poppin to say HI! ~~
You are the only one 5er.
You and Darius.
Jesus told me to tell you that you're gonna go to hell for putting picture of an arse on your blog and turning everyone gay. He said that anyone that can get a rise out of him like that deserves to go to hell.
I'm not sure what he meant about a rise cause he sounded kinda funny and breathless.
Anyway. That's what he said so I'm passing it on.
No Jesus! I'm not gonna finish you off! Use the holes in your hand you sick fuck!
Save some room in hell for me? I feel some heat coming my way!
I have my beliefs, based on things I have read and studied about, and I gotta tell ya, none of it has to do with an organized religion. I can't tolerate 'em much either. Got no use for 'em. I'm kinda like Huck Finn, hell, if them people are gonna be in heaven, I don't wanna go no way. lol Later
You know my views. No sense in repeating what you've already said.
Slide, darlin, you have never offended me. Never. Believe me, if you had, I would have told you. I enjoy your comments and insights immensly. I can relate to being called "Heathen." I been called Heathen, pagan, godless, hell spawn, the anti-christ, and the devil's seed. I usually reply with something like "I am not, and I can prove it. If I was trully a hell spawn, you'd be dead and gutted. Now get the fuck off my porch before The Dark Master hears you."
Bulging, if I knew nothing else about you besides your comment about the holes, I would know we are of the same mind. That is so wonderfully demented and twisted. I'll save you a spot in the blue blazes.
36, I have worked in the resuraunt business and seen the same thing. It is a shame. Thank you for working and feeding lazy bums like me. If it matters, I normally tip 25-30% on Sundays, just because I know how it goes.
