Blog Bitching: 3 of 7

Blog Bitching: 2 of 7

Let me be clear on one point - I am not pointing fingers at any one in particular. I have no single blogger in mind when I write any of these posts. I am just practicing my right to bitch for the sole sake of hearing myself bitch. If these posts piss you off, then you’ve probably done whatever I am bitching about, but I did not intend to piss you off specifically. Don’t get mad at me; it’s not my fault you’re doing the dumb-ass things I’m bitching about.

3) list watchers: I’m probably really stepping on some toes here, but I have to say I am sick of the nonsense that seems to frequently erupt over the ranking system. I am on the list of most popular blogs, and I enjoy the visibility it allows, but my entire world and sense of self worth does not revolve around it. Recently I was off the list for a few days, and I doubt I will ever be back towards the top like I was before, and you know what? I don’t give a shit. Enough people come to see me now, and I post in enough blogs that I am visible enough without being on the list. I got on the list with worthwhile writing and by the sincere comments of my readers. In that respect, I earned my place, and I deserve to be where I am. I know many of you think the same, because you are the ones who put me on the list to begin with, and you are the folks who keep me there.

(Fear not; there’s more wholesome bitchy goodness inside!)

I do not agree with the games some people play in an attempt to keep members on the list. Posting a single sentence in eight different comments; making comments that have absolutely nothing to do with the blog in question, just for the sake of bumping up the comments; getting into totally divergent comment conversations with other members, again, for the sole sake of racking up the comments ‒ these are the practices that wear a bloody hole in my skull, because it upsets the balance of things.

I have a few comments in my blog like the ones I described above, despite my requests to refrain from such behavior. I leave them there because they are few and far between, they were left by friends who meant well, and they serve as examples of what I don’t want. If I got a lot of them, whether they were left by friends or not, I would delete them, because the practice undermines the validity of my blog. If I can remain on the list due to the merits of my writing, then I am happy to remain. Otherwise, it is right and proper that I should fall away in favor of some one else who writes better, or funnier, or simply is more entertaining. If I use tricks and empty comments to stay on the list, my blog becomes a lie, an illusion of success, and how can I justify feeling any pride or sense of accomplishment in something so false? Worse yet, by doing so, I deny some one else their rightful place on the list, and I have no right to do that.

I am not talking about multiple comments by the same member in the same blog. If I reply to a comment left by another member and they reply to my reply, or if a few members have a comment discussion about the blog post, I LOVE THAT! I think THAT is what Blogland should be all about ‒ communication and discussion of ideas, joking and playing with each other ‒ and I wish I saw more of it going on all across Blogland, but I understand few have enough time to make that happen all the time.

Basically, it comes down to intent. If a comment is left in a blog because the commenter honestly wants to communicate with the blog author, then it’s all good. If the comment is left in an attempt to keep a person on the list, put a person on the list, or to knock some one else off the list, then it’s total bullshit, and I cannot abide the poignant stench thereof.

Do I write posts with the hopes of getting comments? Of course I do. I love writing for an interactive audience. I write my thoughts and opinions. I write my stories and fantasies. I ask questions to see what my readers think or feel about certain things, but none of it is done in an attempt to manipulate the list or my place on it. I am here to write, to laugh, and to learn about others.

I say “Fuck the list.” I think the competition and visibility draws better writing out of some people (I know I write better simply because I know total strangers will be coming through, and I don’t want them to see crap on their first visit,) but it also prompts some folks to pull some shithead tricks. I wish AdultFriendFinder would do away with the damned list. I’d still be here regardless, and I know most of you would be as well. I hope a sensible solution comes out of the talks at the convention.

I really do not care if I ever make the "list" as it does not matter to me. I am proud of you that do as I think you deserve it.

Just dropped by to see if the bitching session was still going on and it is indeed...I LIKE it!

Does all this bitchin' make you a bitch? Just curious -- don't hurt me!

*cringes in a ball in the corner protecting face and head with arms while awaiting a major "bitch slap" (hehe -- that was pretty good! Yes, I laugh at myself constantly even if no one else does ----> hehe <----- seeeeee!!!)*

I'm just teasing, of course! I know Sgt. Dickhead is the bitch! LOL!

Jess

I'm gonna pay for that, aren't I? Ruh Roh Shaggy!

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE REST OF MY POST??? AAAARRRGHHH!! I HATE THIS!!!!

anyway, here is the rest of what I intended to say. it was here earlier. I dunno where it went. damn site.

amen, brother...amen. Right with you on that...and sorry I haven't been as active as I wanted to be...I'm finding that there's a direct correlation between time spent blogging and customers getting frustrated on getting stuff turned in on time...gotta go with the money source.

Good book, by the way. I wanted you to know that your story prompted me to post this novel I wrote...one stinkin' chapter at a time.

Hang in there. Be yourself. Let the chips fall where they may..

Grin, 5er, I think you might enjoy something that I have used as a log-on or tag-line for years, almost as long as I've been on the internet. My motto of sorts...

You say BITCH like it's a bad thing.

This world would suck without constructive criticism. I agree whole-heartedly with all your bitching posts so far.

Have tongue, will use it. Repeatedly.

You know those comments are gonna appear... just where you expected them to.

Sometimes posts go the quick way. Other times they seem to meander through every server AdultFriendFinder has... possibly taking a peek at all the other posts.

I personally think the comments are an extension of the humour that's initiated in the opening post. The interaction between visitors is fantastic, and I'd like to see it in mine. However, I take your point as it can and does distort the rankings.

I think rankings in order of unique visitors or visiting activity. ie. simply the number of hits. Whether they're unique or not... I haven't figured that out.

Perhaps without the list, we would be encouraged to 'watch' more of them. Rather than relying on a bloggers placement to facilitate ease of monitoring. AdultFriendFinder could do a sliding window of featured blogs.

Bottom line is... you like a blog? Put it on watch. Then it doesn't matter a stuff whose on the list.

That's what I do!

whose? I meant who's. Shit! Sorry 5er. That was completely genuine.

and my first comment? Was meant to be Visibility.

ok? I'll just shut up now. I see you tapping your open palm with that cane.

Of course, you know I agree 100%.

Daphne? I have "You say bitch like it's a bad thing." on a license plate, lol. It was given to me by my former staff some years ago. I want it on a t-shirt!

Jez, PREACH IT, sister! can I get a "HELL YEAH!"

Dano, I never gave it a second thought until I wound up on the damn thing. I never figured I'd be on it either.

Bugling, I hate to break it to you, but a couple assholes do come to your blog. I know because I swing by as often as I can, and I see T in there quite often as well.

Sizzle, I will! I'll never shut up! They'll have to kill me to silence me!

Jes, I laughed at that visual. You crack me up too, but you needn't worry. I have never hit a woman in my entire life. And to answer your question, yes, I am a bitch sometimes.

Jim I feel your pain on that real life stuff. When I had a job, it got in the way of blogging, fucking, sleeping, and drinking. I don't miss mine one bit! I've not been over to your blog in awhile, but I really want to see this novel you're posting. See you soon.

Daphne, I might get that slogan tattooed on my forehead! That rocks!

Bulging, you make some great points and suggestions here. I hope our concerns and ideas are presented to AdultFriendFinder by those at the convention and something good comes of it. Otherwise, I'm gonna have to go somewhere else for my blog fix.

Wetpanties, I do the same, with the short comments. Sometimes it's just a smiley face. I'll pass the hug along to DT.

DT, thank you for your support, babe.
