Bad News

Yesterday I went to a friends bridal shower. The first hour the men were there but then left so us women could do our shower stuffs. Everything went well. She got some really great presents and there was a a good food spread.

After all the shower stuff was done the men returned and we all sat down for some drinks. I was talking with one of the men and I asked him how he was doing. He told me that he is sick. I prceeded to ask him about his sickness thinking that it was a stomach bug or a cold. It turns out he has cancer, lukemia to be more exact. He had it as a child and overcame it, but now it is back 2 times worse than before. He told me that he decided not to get treated and he has 8-12 months to live. He said he just wants to live the rest of his life to the fullest. Travel, visit people, and just do whatever.

I do admire him for this. I am the type of person that when I go I don't want to feel bad for myself and I don't want others to feel bad for me. This is his thoery as well. He just wants to go knowing that his friends had a great time with him and doesn't want to hear "How are you feeling today?" by a lot of people.

I can only hope that he fufills everything that he wants to do within the next year.

It sort of brings things into perspective. And there is something to be said for living and dying gracefully. I admire his outlook and courage. Keep us posted if you can.

How awesome! That is my idea of a successful life, choosing how to live and living each day as though it were your last.

I'm not one that thinks that death is the worst thing that can happen to a person. The worst thing is not being true to yourself. He is being true to himself and must be a truly amazing person. Plese keep us posted! -B

I am very sorry about your friend... I am not sure what I would do in the circumstance. I have two small children and my main worry in life is making sure they will be ok.

Sorry to hear of your bad news. Seems like I'm hearing a lot of it this year. Friend's wife has bone cancer after being a breast cancer survivor. No cure. Can only make her comfortable. Not sure the prognosis for how long she will live.
Another Friends wife was diagnosed with an enlarged heart which she developed after giving birth 9 months ago. It looked really bad at the start but subsequent meetings with their doctor gave them hope. She could live many years with this condition.
Keeping everyone in my thoughts.
