 You need iron gloves. I hope the pain meds are good. So who is going to take care of you while your finger recoups?

 lol you and mom agree then...she said iron gloves also.

As for helping, my brother's gf took me to the ER and then came to my house and finished my dishes for me. DB offered to come to the ER but as I was ok just needed stitches I told him he didn't have to, but he's already checked up on me and I know he'll watch out for me. And the brother's gf said she'd check back in a couple days to see if I needed anything.

And yup got morphine for pain.

 Oh my! Hope you are OK.

At my first ever job (as a bus-boy, also responsible for keeping the salad bar stocked) the chef taught me the lettuce is never to be cut, but torn in to bite-sized pieces.

 yeah normally to prevent browning of the edges you tear salad, which the browning is from both the crushing from cutting and a reaction between the lettuce and the metal of most knives, but these ceramic knives don't crush or have the metal reaction so the lettuce doesn't brown when you use them. I've used ceramic knives for over a year now and they're great.

In all my years of working in kitchens and at home and others homes I've never cut my hand or fingers with a KNIFE deep enough to need stitches....the only other time I had stitches from a cut was back in 1997 when my rotary cutter jumped over the ruler and cut my thumb.
