quiet days in Rome
quiet days in Rome
I knew it. Of course I won't be in Milan in time for my meeting. Postponed it to Monday. No big affair, will be a presentation only, first contacts, nothing serious yet. This will give me some lazy time here in Rome. Isn't that sad? Maybe take a closer look at that American group around the corner. That one lady looked real nice and seems to be single.
The secretary option is down the river, anyway. Learned in an advanced phase of last night's feast that my assumption was right and the boss, Gianfranco M., fucks her on a regular basis. We don't want to spoil the newly gained heartfelt friendship, do we?
Could not sleep well after the gluttony and booze we had last night after we finally signed contract. My usual dirty trick to give them the impression that I don't understand their language (at least I understand the numbers, no problem there!) helped a lot to make the outcome successful. At least some compensation for enduring their English for so many hours. They spoke quite openly among themselves in their language which helped me to assess my position. Thanks guys, very considerate of you.
Got some more valuable informations during dinner, or during booze, I should rather say. Bought them rare single malt scotch which they are not used to and that loosened their tongues considerably. Learned that they actually think they made a very good bargain and that I am a lousy negotiator. Can be very helpful in the future, signori! I'll never tell you that I granted you only about half of the discount the principal had entitled me to. Why make you unhappy and spoil future projects.
Must remember that restaurant over there in Trastevere, nice place, divine food, friendly waiters (yes, in Rome, too!) and not more excessively priced than any other place in this eternal city.
Found a message from E. and M. when I returned to the hotel, would I not like to spend some more time with them if I didn't make it in time for Milan and stayed in Rome for the weekend. Sorry, folks, that was a very nice evening, but let us not overdo it, and now I have some other targets here.....maybe next time!
Cancelled my flight to Milan and bought a train ticket and seat reservation for Sunday. Will take a long walk today to take a closer look at the fori, colosseo, terme di Caracalla, and maybe the catacombs off Via Appia. Maybe even watch some of the Winter Olympics events in Torino on TV, people are all excited here about it. May even take a tour to visit the other sites of Dan Brown's book Angels and Demons. I don't think it is a great book, but his descriptions of the local scenes are quite accurate.
Guess it will be the Italian style breakfast this morning. Tummy's still full.
Ciao, caro mio diario, ci vediamo!
