My Chat Rant

There’s something I need to get off my chest. It’s rare that I rant. But I’d like to find out if I’m missing something.

“Let’s chat and find out if we have chemistry.”

“IM me so we can chat.”

“Emails, then chat, then telephone before we meet.”

Chat. Chat. Chat. You’ve seen these lines in profiles. Or very similar ones. What is all this chat crap? What did we do before Instant Messaging? It wasn’t that long ago, you know. I absolutely loathe Instant Messaging. What sane person derives pleasure from sitting in front of a computer screen and waiting for his/her chat partner to come up with a witty reply? This is the biggest waste of time I’ve ever experienced!

What ever happened to meeting over coffee or a light lunch to test chemistry?

It don't take too many trips to the chat bar to get your fill, does it?

Some people are time wasters. While some are just too busy to even say hi. Who knows?

I understand your frustration. I get a lot of those too...I don't do the IM thingy...I have 3 children, volunteer work, the gym...I don't have time to sit in front of my computer hours a day. I only converse via email and I don't make a very good penpal. Emailing back and forth is pretty boring. How often can you say "I'm fine, thank you" before pushing the delete button the next time. And one line conversation doesn't do anything for me. How can one see if one has chemistry through the computer...that can only happen face to face.

And just how much time do you waste writting all these blogs???? You could be chatting and getting aquainted with someone!!! And while i agree, in there isnt reason to chat with someone for months on end, but I do on the other hand like to atleast chat for awhile to kind of get a feel for what type of person they are. Also, I think it is different for men than for women, we have to be just a bit more careful about who we agree to meet, especially on this site, let me tell you I have gotten e-mails from some real sick-o's, so better safe than sorry.

I've had to agree with the last two. For women I find it is far easier to chat online than to meet face to face right away. If I met face to face first with every guy that wanted to get to know me I'd have to quit my job and still find more time in the week; it just isn't possible. Chatting is also safer than a phone in my opinion because if you find out you don't care for the individual you can block them so they can't contact you again. You may choose not to answer your phone but it will still ring if the guy turns out to be more of a flake than you originally thought.

I don't exactly sit in front of my computer and wait for someone to show up. Since I work on a computer and some of my hobbies involve the computer in some form it is easy for me to turn the messenger on and if they beep in I take a little break if they don't I happily go about whatever I was working on. If I'm doing something that I don't want to be disturbed during I turn the messenger off.

If it wasn't for IMing occasionally I probably would have met some real weirdos by now given that some of them are real good at catching your attention and you find out later how desparate they really seem to be.

Oh ... and just for the record I delete any email that includes a phone number, personal email address, or IM addy in the very first correspondence and contains no information beyond them attaching their profile ... if they can't take the time to email with original content to get my attention they don't deserve a response.

I have fun on chat and it has led to some pleasant physical meetings. If you want to meet people as people this might not be the site for you. You can always say NO, or lets go for it, if all is ok.

How much time do you waste reading his blogs ?????? Believe me... if I lived in NY... Mr. Sexy wouldn't be writing blogs for you to criticize.... If you can't say something nice... Please, don't say nothing at all !!!!!! We get what we deserve.. You have you're "ASS" posted for all to see...Do you have the right to get upset when someones say's something in a sexual manner ??? I don't think so???? This is not eHarmony or match.com ...I have my "BOOB" posted ..Therefore I have no right to complain when a man email and asks if he can have a feel !!!! I certainly wouldn't give him a feel, but then again i can't get "PISSED" off either...
I love you Mr. NY.... and I'll meet you for coffee any day !!!!! As to IM...or chatting....

B - Thanks for your support, luv. Others have commented to me about her and wondered what I ever did to hurt her. The fact is, I couldn't have hurt her because I've never met her. Who knows? Maybe she's just jealous of us. By the way, can I have a feel? - S

Sorry, Curious. I'm new the the blog world and, apparently, don't know the protocols. From now on, all comments will get a response. Unless, of course, my response would dignify an insincere comment. Mea Culpa, sweetheart!
