Self Destruction

I destroy homes and tear families apart. I take your children and that’s just a start. I’m more valued than diamonds, as precious as gold. The sorrows I bring is a sight to behold. If you need me, remember, I’m easily found. I live all around you, in school and in town. I live with the rich and I live with the poor. I live down the road, maybe even next door. I’m made in a lab, but in one that you think. I can even be made under your own kitchen sink, or in your child’s closet or out in the wood’s ‒ if t his scares you to death, well maybe it should. I have many names, but there is one you’ll know best ‒ I am sure that you’ve heard of me. I’m called Crystal Meth.

My power is awesome, try me and see, but after you do you will never break free. Try me just once ‒ I might let you go, but try me again and I’ll own your soul. Once I posses you you’ll steal and you’ll lie, and do what you have to just to get high. The crimes you’ll commit for my narcotic charms are not worth the pleasure you’ll feel in my arms. You’ll lie to your mother and steal from your dad, but don’t let their tears make you feel sad, just dismiss your morals and how you were raised, I’ll be your conscious, I’ll teach you my way’s. I take kids from their parents and parents from kids, turn people from God and separate friends. I’ll take everything from you ‒ your good looks, your pride; I’ll be here for you always, right at your side.

You’ll give up everything ‒ your family, your home. You’ll give up friends and you’ll be all alone. I’ll take and I’ll take, till you’ve no more to give, when I am finished with you you’ll be lucky to live. If you try me be warned ‒ for I am not a game, if I’m given the chance I’ll drive you insane. I’ll ravage your body and control your mind, I’ll own you completely ‒ and then you’ll be mine. Nightmares I’ll give you when you’re lying in bed and voices will torment you inside your head. The sweats, the shakes, and the visions you’ll see, I want you to know these are all gifts from me. By then it’s too late and you’ll know in your heart that you are now mine ‒ and we will never part. You’ll regret that you tried me ‒ they always do, but try to remember, you came to me, not I to you. You knew this would happen, many times you were told, but you challenged me trying to be bold. You could have said no and then walked away. If you could life that day over what would you say?

Go head and curse me with every breath, just make up your mind, will it be life or meth?

-- Brenda

A student of mine brought this into me today. Three years ago when I started teaching she was a meth addict. To know her then and know her now is like night and day. I asked her today if she went through everything in this poem and she said she did. I cried. Yet, I rejoice because she has been clean for nearly two years.

Nasty stuff. I thank the gods that I've never come face to face with meth ...

I have never ever experienced it and never will. I have students who have been addicted, and they are now free from it's grasp. I thank God for that.

When people my age get all sanctimonious about meth, I gently remind them that it wasn't even around in our day, and if it was, half of us would probably not even be here. I've seen this sh*& rip apart "normal" families and is currently reaking major havoc on the tiny community in which I live.

The one light in this situation is that a couple people FROM the community have found the strength and humility to get passed it, and are now working with their friends and neighbors and family members to help them do the same. Over here, the solution really needs to come from within the community.

Sorry for the long post, but it pushed a tender button.

Yeah, I'm still [blog 1hotwahine]

I agree with you that it has to be a community effort. It is amazing how many people don't want to get involved. Then there are those few who are on fire and are totally committed to help.

Post as long as you want to, that's what the comment sections are for.

CuteAZguy27, it is beautiful, and she is too. She stopped before it made her ugly as meth is known to do.

mzhunyhole, I am glad it has been out of your life for over three years. I have never seen it, I would not know what it looked like if it was sitting in front of me.

toothysmile meth has ruined so many lives. It is really sad. And to think there are going to be worse drugs creeping out and about. Hell, there probably is.
