Fallen

I’ve fallen again
That much is clear

…Into a pit of fire
…Into an icy pool
…Adrift in deep space
…In a dream so cruel

I’ve fallen again
But without a sound

…Like death hovering near
…Like the coming of night
…A dark sky approaching
…A wingless angel, sans flight

I’ve fallen again
Only no one can see

…A mirage I’ve cultivated
…A dance of subtle missteps
…An image cast in darkness
…A victim of my own concepts

I’ve fallen again
But I doubt anyone will care
For you can’t really miss
What was never there...

When I read something like this, I'm always curious as to the back story behind it, would you mind sharing? I also wonder about what you've fallen for or into... when I read it, I think of my own experiences and, at this moment in my life, if I were to apply your poem to the way I feel, I'd think you were talking about falling in love... pit of fire, like death hovering near... sounds like love to me, scary stuff So any hints as to interpretation? Great poem, thanks for sharing.

Kiera - You're a sweety! BTW, is it the quote you like, or the show from which it originated?

SRB - I'm a goofball all day long. I guess I save the other stuff for when I write. It's a comfortable balance. Regardless, feel free to come on over and give me something to smile about ANY time!!!

NSA - I've always enjoyed movies, novels, stories, etc. that have an air of amgiguity to them. Stories that provide a framework, but allow you to draw your own conclusions, experience your own feelings. I'm just happy (IE surprised) that it made you feel anything. One thing I can guarantee - it ain't about fallin' in love. That's not allowed!!!

hey doc... I've been meaning to get back to you and answer what you said to me in your comment above. You know, about being a goofball all day long. Not to get psycho-analytical on your ass, (but I'm REALLY good at it and can't help myself) there are some who would say being the goofball, class clown, or always the funny guy is really just a way to keep people at bay and to keep your guard up and in place. As a defense mechanism, you see. We all have them, of course.

So, for whatever it's worth, let me say the following to finish: You can be funny but don't let that prevent you from letting people get to know the real you. They'd like you even more.
