I just ran into a site with "A Compilation of Japanese Folk Zen Sayings" as translated by Soiku Shigematsu ... just want to share a few of my favorite ones

The garden bamboos
The wind’s invisible form:
Movement of shadows
In the moonlight.

A Wish
To go to
Heaven is
The very beginning of
Falling into hell.

Your parents,
All constituted in Yourself.
Love Yourself,
Revere Yourself.

Be careful
Every minute, reminding yourself:
One moment’s
Carelessness may cause
A thousand-mile difference

Everything is
A lie in this world
Because even
Isn’t so.

The best
Against a thief is
Not a six-foot rod,
But poverty.

Although you keep
A jewel within yourself,
Nobody will notice it
Unless you
Polish and brighten it.

That one really
Looks innocent;
Commits secret sins--
But innocently.

(and this last one just amused me...)

A woman’s tongue,
Three inches long,
Rules over men,
Six feet tall.

Unrequited love
inspires beautiful things;
still, the pain
remains with you.
