Another of Dashers Random Picks.........

Alright, lets get off of that negativity now. Cant stand looking at that shit.

In celebration of the upcoming holiday, St. Patty's day, I'm doing another of Dashers Random Picks. The movie here would be The Quiet Man starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara (both pictured above).

Movie Description from The Dude:

(None of the websites had a very good description of this movie so Ill do one dammit!)

Tragedy strikes boxer "Trooper" Sean Thornton (Wayne). After which, he decides to return to his homeland of Ireland, to the sleepy little country town that he was born in before his family immigrated. Taking up residence in his families former homestead, Thornton tries to start over again.

Things are thrown for a loop when he meets fiery redhead Mary Kate Danaher (O'Hara). Now he has quite the task on his hands, winning her heart and getting past her older brother and hot head Will Danaher who does not like Thornton for buying back his family homestead when Danaher wanted it for himself.

The Dudes Review:

I love this movie, its just great. Its very funny and really gives you a great look into traditional Irish society, its rules, its traditions, and the special way that everyone in a small town looks out for each other.

One of the coolest things about this movie is that it was all filmed in Ireland on location during the 1950's. The countrysides in the background are just simply breath taking. The music in the film is great and will warn you that some of the songs may get stuck in your head!

This comes high high off of the Dudes recommendation list. So grab some pretzels and a glass of wine or a pint and enjoy!

The Dude.

These pretzels are making me thirsty.....lol. Sorry, couldn't resist.

Hell, I may as well watch the movie so I can have a look at Ireland. Since I don't know when the fuck I'll make it to the Isle to seek out my heritage.

my thoughts exactly! Thats one of my life's goals. I want to return to where my family came from and spend some time there. Relax and just take all of it in. My greatgrandmother did it before she died. She was right off of the boat Irish, and finally got a chance to fly back with her sisters and see where they grew up. I would love to see what she saw.

You know, not being a big John Wayne fan, I ignored this movie up until a few years ago. Now I love it. Good call!

Yeah, I'm still [blog 1hotwahine]

I find myself the older I get the more appreciation I have for the real movies.
I will flip through the channels and stop on a old John Wayne movie and sit and watch for awhile. Not much computer animation put in those movies now is there..lol. Just real and real acting.

I once put a silent movie on, and my kids bitched and moaned, but the funny part is they sat and watched it..

"The Quiet Man" - JW should have gotten an Oscar for this one! One of the best fight scenes (re-enacted in McClintock) ever in a movie!

hell yes he should have!!! Shit, half of the cast should have gotten awards. Especially the little old dude that played Flinn, the constantly drunk matchmaker. He was freaking hilarious!!

"Is this a courting or a donnybrook? Have the good manners not to hit the man until he's your husband and entitled to hit you back."

I love that movie!!! It is one of my grandmother's favorites (along with anything else the Duke was is). I remember, my sis and I didn't want to watch it....it was old and therefor bound to be boring, right? Finally let her put it on because Dad was glaring at us...I think we must have watched it four or five times that day.
