Is Text Messaging for Pussies?

I know, I know, I can't believe I said the dreaded "P" word either, but I'm really at a loss as to what all the hype is over text messaging. Personally, it seems like a whole lot of something over nothing -- seems like way more work than it's worth.

If you have something to say, isn't it a whole lot easier just to pick up the phone and call someone and/or tell them in person? Seems like text messaging can be confusing and/or is a way to annoy people who aren't taking your calls for some reason or to pussy out on telling someone something you can't tell them to their face.

What am I missing here gang? Please enlighten me!

(Oh yeah, and for those of you who have my number, I'd prefer you call me than text message me -- in case you hadn't guessed!! LOL!! Hey, what can I say? I'm an old-fashioned girl!!

I use text messaging when I can't call and I need to get a message to my kids or Piney. Other then that I call. Am I a pussy??? *shrugs* maybe.

I suppose if you want to send someone a message and you don't want, or they don't want to pick up the phone, text messaging is okay. But I've never used it.

Daisy, oh do you do it? Once again you've touched upon a hot button issue in today's world. Your social consciousness always leaves me speechless. I hate text messaging and usually never reply to one. I'm especially not going to look at one while I'm driving on these LA freeways. If I want to reach someone, I call. If they are not available, I leave a message. That's all. It's that simple. New technologies exist for many reasons, but none more so than to get your money out of your pocket. Keep up the fine work, Daisy. We need you!

It's not much different than e-mailing, in fact, one can text to an e-mail address rather than a phone number. I'm in Court regularly and obviously can't use my phone to call people, so while I'm waiting I can text e-mails to my office or whomever I need to reach. It's convenient, because if the other person is busy, they don't need to be interrupted by the phone call, they can respond at their leisure (just like voice-mail or e-mail). The cost, like e-mail, is nominal at best, considering the cost of postage and the time delay. I find it's just another way to save time and resources. As for whether I'm a pussy or not...I say, I am what I I guess so. Have a great week!

P.S. don't be afraid of technology...just think, at one time a vibrator was weird new technology, I hope you're not afraid of that!!!

Poeple today are so spoiled. You'd be surprised how many people think a phone is an inconvenience.

Hi Daisy,
to me it`s a surprise you could be an old-fashioned girl
I am pretty the same like you.
Talking over the phone is much more fun and sexy.
To hear your voice, laughing with eachother and... That`s for sure a plus!
I am more a face to face type of person or on the phone.
So over the phone and in real life there is more personality and of course you have personality, warm heart and a lot more to offer...
The phone rings and you never know who is on the other end of the line... Surprise. Is it the person you love or just some neurotic person. What have we done before we had e-mail, cell phone ....
Some people might it call od-fashioned I call it exciting and that`s what life should be.
Love and kisses J

Think of it as the high tech way of passing notes in class... You can send it discretely. The other person can receive it discretely, and you can do it right under the nose of all the people around you.

Think of yourself in a "boring company meeting" and you want to pass a note across the table... like "I want to lie you on the table and fuck you silly"... and watch the expression of the person you just sent it to

I text a few people, mostly for fun. And I have sent texts to someone in the same room. Wanna play?

DAISY... I have 2 admit I can be accused of text. Text is a secret way to let someone know your thinking, wanting or anything about them, with out the hassle of disturbing them. Who knows they may be in the middle of sex, or with someone they don't want 2 know their secret... its just plane sneaky, and some people get off on it.

Oh yeah, believe me Daisy, if I had your # there would definitely be NO text involved, maybe some photo exchange but that's another topic...

It's not better or worse, just different. Texting works great for specific info, "can you text me the address to..." or "text me so and so's phone number." It also works great when you're in places like, the line at the bank, where it's rude to talk on your phone or you don't want everyone to hear your conversation. Also, there is power in the written word (or typed, in this case) that transcends speech. There are jokes or truths that only work written. It's just a different way to communicate and the difference is what can be good about it.

I disagree ohnoitsdevo,

My last x-girlfriend drove us apart because she used text messages. Worse, she used it ade as her sole form of communication. I preached daily that this was a pure sign of how little value Texts don’t always come in whole, nor-complete and can go missing for weeks before mysteriously appearing in your mailbox. /she placed in our understanding each other. Text messaging to deliver her most important thoughts was disgraceful.

Our first fight was over a text. She was in NYC and I in SJC and she wouldn’t answer her phone. I then sent 2 text messages spaced out about an hr each. After no reply or answer of her phone I sent an old English Cockney slang text hoping the odd words would cause her to call me. Sadly they both missed the point, text allowed me to place them in time together and avoiding me for some reason.

Instead she asked her best friend to decipher my words. This friend advised I was trying to be hateful. It is amazing how some open their mouths when they have nothing intelligent to say. We spent 8 days apart while I had to build my case for old English and slang from the UK. As I once lived in the UK and Asia I found it difficult to believe the advice was coming from a 33yo divorced woman whom had never been to England. But just a text message away and in the absence of dialogue it’s easy to understand why she always fails.

Sadly I had warned her so many times of the impending doom that loomed over us, that nothing ever could get fixed and perfected if she insisted on this silly text life, so we both lost and I apologize for not being able to control myself but I tried to show her just what an intelligent human can do to the game players. This is a grown woman of 33yo unable to alter her destructive pattern of behavior, while she sat for hours chatting away with her friends that were of like 3yo mind was devastating to witness.

Either way this was a relationship that drove me nutz, being in love with a woman that disrespected herself and her lover so greatly she chose to use Text Messaging as the sole form of communication. DON’T TEXT IMPORTANT ISSUES OR INFORMATION! Especially if you graduated from USC ….

It's almost like sending and e-card, some people cant be on the phone at work, it's a good way to have a reminder for those of us with forgetful mind's, it's another way to cheat on a test, or send a lil love note. I seem to have lost my #, daisy can I have your's?

I'm fairly new to blogging and would appreciate a blogers Mulligan? Is there such an option for a post-post edit and repost?

I apologize… I will learn how to copy and paste, I will learn how to copy and paste, I will learn how to copy and paste, I will learn how to copy and paste, I will learn how to copy and paste, I will learn how to copy and paste, I will learn how to copy and paste, I will learn how to copy and paste...

I am told my voice is very sexy and I would always perfer to talk to a person. Text is always a second best option and very tedious. There are times when it comes in handy such as in a very noisy place where talking on the phone is not possible or in some of the endless meetings I have to sit through. I use it sometimes when I have quick yes/no type of question for someone. So pussy or not, I feel it has its place.

Ah, the rich American does not like text messaging? LOL

In countries like Russia, text messaging is the preferred way to communicate because of costs. Sending a text message costs WAY less than talking to someone for one minute on the phone. That makes a big difference when your monthly salary is less than $400.

If a woman REALLY wants me to talk to her on the phone, she will call my cell phone and then hang up. She knows I will call her back (I'm the "rich American"!) and she receives the call for free. And, they have text messaging down to a science these days. The new phones now have dictionaries, auto complete functions and stored messages, so it's pretty impressive the amount of communications that can be text messaged these days.

Besides, you can't send a cute animation on a real call.

Daisy, I am no fan of text or email.I much prefer to talk to someone. You can express so much more and there is less chance of misinterpretation.
