What's Worse? TV Movies or Movies From TV?

I have just been inspired by Dark Lord NickRules999
in his post Countdown to 6-6-06 to write about a certain type of movie.

I'm sure we're all old enough to remember that some of the cheesy but popular sitcoms of the 80's made 2 hour episodes that they liked to call movies because they were all set outside their "natural habitat". For example when the cast of The Facts of Life went to Australia or when the cast of Family Ties went to London. Do you see where I'm going here? LAME LAME LAME!!

Can you imagine if some idiot had decided to market this garbage as big screen features? I woulda walked out of the theater even MORE pissed off than I did when I saw Wild Wild West!

Imagine these screen gems:

Welcome Back Kotter - Sweathogs Take Manhattan
Benson - Polishing Paris
Bosom Buddies - Journey to Silicone Valley
Small Wonder - Version 7.9
Family Matters - YES, you did that...

These are just a few that occurred to me. Can you think of some?

Three's Company - Amsterdam Threesome. But the Mr.Furley shows up and ruins the whole trip of course.

I kinda liked Wild Wild West.

"Sitcoms as movies" is just a disaster though. At best they just run through material that was fresher the first time they did it... at worst it's a painful stretch to fill the ninety minutes. And it sullies your happy memories of the original shows to boot.

You know, the two-hour made for TV movie didn't really start in the 80s. Remember when the Brady Bunch went to Hawaii? But I believe they broke that up into episodes. They gave the American public too much credit.

The Partridge Family - Live at Budakhan!
The Honeymooners - Ralph and Alice buy a house in NJ.
Night Court - Judge Stone is promoted to International Court and goes to Iraq and presides over the Saddam Hussein trial.
Cheers - Drinking Tour of Ireland.

Imagine this stuff here:

Punky Brewster-20 years later. I think that girl is still cute, by the way. LOL

Silver Spoons-Ricky Inherits the Company. Remember how that kid had arcade games in his living room? Who didn't envy that little fucker? I'd have killed for that.

The Wonder Years-Wonder Where The Years Went? Hey look! We've got pubes! Holy shit! How did that happen? LOL

GLOW-Reunion. Well, if ECW could get back together......

Saved By The Bell-Not Another Fucking Movie. I guess that says it all. I do remember watching the show, coz nothing else was on, never cared for it, and my stepdad, when he was still a cool guy, saw one of the girls sporting cleavage and said to me, "Hey Nick. Would you titty bang that?" Being 14, I didn't know what a "titty bang" was till years later. LOL

Good Times-The Movie. Dy-no-mite!! I'm kidding.....

Sanford and Son-Years Later. Sorry. Redd Foxx is gone. It just won't work.

How about this?

M*A*S*H-The Iraqi War. The two main characters of this show will be grandsons of Radar and Klinger, and yes, Corporal Klinger the 3rd will be in drag.

Oh, and I can't forget about this....

The Monkees-Japanese Tour. Sayonara, Davey.

That'a all I have.

Come into my realm! You aren't afraid...are you?

Sorry Cutey baby...can't help you out on this one since I am not much into television. All I can say is that supposedly a feature-length movie of the Simpsons is on its way and I for one will be all over that. It is about time! I could surely use two hours' worth of floor-rolling laughter!
