Pressure Rising

Anxiety was a constant for me now. I couldn't sleep because it was too uncomfortable. My belly was obscene. My breasts were now an E cup. My sciatic nerves were wound up tight as a drum.

My emotional nerves were in the same condition. I kept thinking about when I had to tell the father. My friend offered to tell him for me and I was tempted to accept that offer. I didn't because I thought it would be best if I told him. But he wasn't returning her calls.

Stuck in my bedroom. Bored outta my skull. No cable. Now you need to understand, Puertorican television is pure garbage. Not having cable was torture. All there was to watch was reality court shows and Maury/Springer/Sally type talk shows. Oh yeah, Novelas too. Mom bringing me my meals. Not that it mattered, I could barely eat anymore. There was no room for food. I had heartburn.

He still hadn't answered my friend's calls.

I went to see the doctor, as I did every week. The nurse took my pulse, tempertaure, blood pressure and weight. I had gained 7 pounds in 5 days. The doctor asked what I had been eating. I told him I'd been eating less. About two thirds less than I had been eating throughout. My BP was a bit elevated as well. He sent me for some labs and asked me to call him with the results.

I got the labwork done. I called the doctor. I read him the results he asked for, "Get your butt to the hospital right now." So I got my butt to the hospital within the hour. It turns out I had preeclampsia which is defined as a form of toxemia of pregnancy, characterized by hypertension and fluid retention. Not a good thing, yet again.

Side note: My father had gone into a coma because of a bleeding ulcer.

I was strapped with three monitors. One for my contractions (those hadn't really stopped) and one for each of the babies. I had a cuff automatically taking my BP every 30 minutes (that thing fuckin HURTS!). I had an IV, I don't know what for.

My mom called my friend and told her what was going on. He still hadn't called her.

I was strapped and monitored that Saturday from the early afternoon until late in the evening. My doctor came to see me early Sunday night. He had scheduled a c-section for Monday morning.

"You're having your babies tomorrow. Now get some rest!"

Good lord woman! Just twins, or did they steal a baby or two when you weren't looking?

I've always been told planned C-sections are the way to go. No being forced to spend hours pushing, no pain during delivery and morphine for a few days after. Unless they really botch it, then you're on morphine for weeks.

Please don't tell me all they gave you was Tylenol, like in the commercial that made every woman I ever knew who had a C-section roll on the floor when it came on.

This is off the subject, but I have added three videos to my Myspace profile.

One of them is 30 seconds of a King Diamond concert.

Another is the Eygpt video by Mercyful Fate.

You'll love the third. Beavis and Butthead rip on Mercyful Fate's Bell Witch video.

I had to tell you about that.
