Cyclone Warning

So I'm IMing this super-cool gentleman and somehow the conversation turned to amusement parks and roller coasters.

I told him that I hadn't been to Six Flags in 16 years. He told me that there is SO much more there now. He's gonna take me there soon. YAY. He has a season pass plus some free passes for a guest. WOO HOO!

I also told him that I had never been to Coney Island. Not even to the famed Cyclone. He was in SHOCK! This could not stay this way. I HAD to ride the cyclone. So he tells me he'll pick me up so that he can take me to Coney Island.

The drive to Coney Island was great! Because of my bad directions we kept missing the exit to the Belt Parkway, but he had a great sense of humor about it. We talked and we laughed and we listened to music. He made fun of me because the seatbelt was pinning me to the seat like a boa constrictor. Fuckin Ford

So we get to Astroland. For those who havent been, this park has the strangest setup. You have random rides here and there but to get to another area with rides you have to either walk out to the street and cross or go out onto the boardwalk and go in through another gate.

The Famed Cyclone has a block all to itself. We got our tickets and went throught the maze-like cyclone-fence queue that summoned images of a prison complex. There were maybe 20 people including us waiting for the next ride.

OK so we sit in the car. It took two men to lock the saftey bar because of my size. A bit embarrassing and tight but we were locked in. Off we go! The car starts climbing. Higher and higher. Then higher again. I feel it shaking a bit but I don't give it too much thought.

HEY...this thing keeps going higher!! It didn't look this hiiiiiiiiiiigggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh... OMG OMG OMG!!! Why is this thing shaking so much? OW sharp turn there goes my neck! Climbing again this time shaking so much my boobs are slapping my face. Yeah a little side note...I wore a boobage blouse. BIG mistake! Anyway shakyclimb shakyclimb.

Sharp turn then drop, there goes my baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaccccccckkkkk. Twisty turny sharpy curvy OW my neck, HEY my boobs, DAMN my back! OMGthisfuckinsafetybarisgonnapopopen!! How the fuck long does this thing laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssssttttttt?!?

"HE-EY HO-O, HE-EY HO-O" the other passengers chant as we get to the bottom of the last drop and go through the dark tunnel that (finally) leads to the end of the line. I could bearely get my legs to move to get out of that infernal contraption. But somehow I did manage, knees turned to mush, my hands shaking like a leaf and cursing like a sailor! Plus I had lost my hair band. It was a good one too!

Here I am two days later. My neck still hurts. My back still hurts. After the Cyclone, we took a walk through the rest of the park and around the boardwalk. When we got back to the car, which was parked right in front of the roller coaster, we sat there and contemplated what looked like a pile of spare timber that someone decided to use to build a roller coaster.

I saw how it shook and shivered as the car went along the track. After witnessing that and feeling this pain I can tell you this: I am NEVER doing THAT again!

Sounds like most of the rides at Alton Towers here in the UK....and many other parks besides. Fun in a spinal injury inducing way....

Don't ever give up searching for the fun in life.

Yeah...I don't do amusement park rides, mostly cos I'm a big wuss, but also because everytime I have, my body somehow got thrown totally outta whack the next day.

Rollercoasters are overrated anyhow....everyone has this fantasy of being played with while in a rollercoaster ala Reese Witherspoon in the movie "Fear," but I know I'm too busy trying not to throw up to concentrate on being fingered.

very funny post. descriptive stuff. I liked your story telling ability. I don't go on roller coasters, but it has nothing to do with huge boobs slapping me in the face.

mmmmmmm...huge boobs slapping my face. (drool)

When you get to Great Adventure, (and it is Great Aventure, not Six Flags.) stay off the Great American Scream Machine.

I was there three years ago for the first time in years. The lines for all the rides were at least an hour long. Of course, you can buy special passes to bump you up to the front of all the rides, but we didn't do that. Well, there was no line for the Great American Scream Machine. It was great fun, but I was afraid if I went on it again, I'd break my neck or get whiplash. It hasn't been maintained properly and it's a bit of a rough ride.

But yes. The safari is gone, replaced by an extreme rides park. Seperate admission fee for that. I was amazed at how large the park has become. But don't expect to go on more than 8 rides in a full day there.

We have an amusement park here in Utah called Lagoon, and lemme tell ya, you gotta be rich to go there anymore. They charge you to park, then they charge you to go in.

There's a ride there called the Fire Dragon, but I still call it the Colossus, coz that's it's original name. If you look at it, it's a very short ride, but it's always intimitaded me coz it begins with a long climb up the extremely high ramp, then a drop down the other side, building momentum as the ride takes you through two loops, another loop around the second loop, a few more circles, and it's done. I, do this day, will not go on it. I'll ride the white roller coaster, but I'll never go on the Colossus.

The coolest ride there has to be the Terroride. It's a haunted house. The exterior looks almost like a castle. Two shutters on turrets on both sides, one with a witch, and the other with a skeleton, both would open the shutters and look down on the people, then close them again, then repeat. There was also a vulture perched high above. Inside, the cart takes you through, and scary things light up, then disappear in darkness, as scary music plays. I'd like to go on that one again. I also want to go on Dracula's Castle again, which seems more mellow then Terroride. It's been a while.

I had a dream once that they remodeled the Terroride. The skeleton and the witch were still there, but a third set of shutters were added which had Frankenstein's monster, and when he appeared, a loud thunder crash would be heard, followed by evil laughter. If they actually did that, it would be a cool addition.

I like scary stuff.

Come into my realm! You aren't afraid...are you?

I am a good person to take to amusement parks in a group because I hold all the purses, coats and souvenir bags. I am afraid of heights! But, hey---when it comes to the Merry-Go-Round, look out! Pitiful, I know. A friend of mine says riding roller coasters and screaming your head of is a great way to relieve stress. However, I am confident I would die of fright! Great post---I enjoy your writing!
