Will Update: His first night

(sniff) I'm feeling all maternal (sniff)

Ok, tonight was Will's first night with us. Mom and I had a long conversation about how this was going to work and decided that since I was the one that he is most attached to, he is more or less my responsibility when he's at the house, making sure he gets his homework done and things like that. Again, it makes me feel all maternal though. Mom and I went shopping and had dinner cooked by the time that he and Dad got home. As you may remember, we told him that we would make anything that he wanted.

Our menu was as follows:
Mashed Potatoes w/ gravy
Strawberry waffles
Sparkling grape juice to drink
and Cinnamon Apples for dessert

At first he was a little shy, seeing as how he was the center of attention from the whole family, but eventually he was joking around with us just like he does with me and Mom at school. (he really is a delightful little angel)
After dinner, he and I sat down and did some of his homework...I won't bore you with a teacher's thoughts, so I'll just say that it went very well. He has chores for the nights that he is with us. We live on a farm and have plenty of work to go around. So he is in charge of the pigs on the nights he is here. (he's really looking forward to helping out with the baby goats once they're born) If you ever need to be cheered up, go and watch a 10 year old try to give 3 little piglets a bath....not sure who was more curious/terrified of the other. Anyway, it was great fun and he was proud of himself that the pigs went to bed clean.

(grabs Kleenex box in preparation for typing next paragraph)

When it was time for bed, he came out to say good night to everyone. He came into the office and HE GAVE ME A HUG...that's right, he hugged me!!! Walked right up and hugged me like it was the most natural thing in the world. (sniff) At that point, Mom walked in and said "hey, where's my hug?" He ended up getting hugs from the whole family...looked pleasantly shocked and hesitantly happy. We decided not to go in to tuck him in (didn't want to push to much) but I stuck my head in when I saw the light go off to ask if he was comfortable, needed more blankets or anything.

I poked my head back in before I left for work...he was sleeping with a smile on his face.

...I love reading about this...

...and you're on a farm, as if the two jobs aren't enough to keep you busy...

You are one terrific person. Thanks for doing this..
