Take a moment to look in the mirror

This week has been one of deep introspection for me. Many things happening, many things changing. Questions that I must find answers to, questions that I've never thought about before. This morning, when I got out of the shower, I simply stood there and stared back at myself in the mirror. And the questions arose in my mind: who am I? Do I really know?

This thought intrigued me and I found myself remembering back to a college psychology class in which we had the assignment to come up with at least 10 "I am...." statements about ourselves. I did that assignment almost two years ago....so much has changed since then. I wondered what my list would be now, so I went into the living room and started writing. Here it is.

1 ) I am a daughter.
2 ) I am a lover.
3 ) I am a sister.
4 ) I am a healer.
5 ) I am trying to find my way.
6 ) I am a fighter.
7 ) I am a dreamer.
8 ) I am a woman.
9 ) I am a traveler of many paths.
10 ) I am a work in progress.

What are yours?

If you had one day to spend with any one person, who would it be and what would you do?

If you could ask that person only one question, what would you ask?

If you had to choose one moment to define the essential piece of who you are, what would that moment be?

In the entire world, what is the one thing that brings you the greatest joy? the greatest sorrow? the most pride?

I'm not asking that you post your answers as comments, because they are rather personal. If you want to share them, then by all means, do so. I'm mearly asking that you take a moment from your busy day, pause in what you are doing and think about the answers. What you find might surprise you.

Thank you for posting this...we get caught up in the 'little picture' of daily life and forget the 'big picture' that we travel through.

I recall times in the past few years...I would visit my Grandmother before she passed away..in a retirement home. She introduced me to her friends and took such pride in doing so. I always asked these 80- and 90-year old men and women about things that happened in their lives (part of the amateur historian in me, I suppose)... their responses startled me. They never talked about what cars they drove or the jobs they held. They didn't mention so much about where they lived or how much money they had. They invariably talked about their lives in general: the family they had, the children they raised, the hardships and triumphs, everyone's health, whether or not everyone is happy in their families and marriages.

BigPicture. All else is details.

Thank You
