Good News!!!

As some of you know, my ex is in the military and I spent the last two years living on the base with him. Any of you who have served in the armed forces know how close the bonds and friendships run between unit members. The unit is it's own little family. The military introduces you to people you would never have talked to otherwise and has a way of inducing wonderful friendships. One of the downsides to this in a time of war is that you almost constantly have someone who is training to go to Iraq, someone who is about to leave or someone who is there.

There was a group that left for Kirkuk, Iraq in early January that had six of my friends on it. They are security personal and have been on convoy escort duties all summer, guarding the trucks as they move people, supplies and equipment from base to base. "You mean the trucks that get attacked and destroyed by roadside bombs?" Yep, those trucks.

But what wonderful Thanksgiving news I received. When I returned from dinner at my aunt and uncles home, my answering machine had a message on it that I could barely make out. It was one of my close friends, calling from Kirkuk to tell me that they had just returned from their last convoy and won't have to go out again. Not a single member of the team received any injuries, although there were multiple close calls. And best of all.....

...they will be boarding the plane and coming home sometime next week!!!!
