Enough rain already......really

Ok, so you see this picture?

I took that picture this morning off a bridge that runs over that creek. As you may know, it has been raining like crazy here in Northern Cali and that is the result. Flood warnings all over the place. Now, normally, I love a good rain storm.

....one small problem. That creek? About a mile or so upstream from where I took that picture, that creek runs across a little dirt road. That little dirt road is the only way in or out for the people who live on the other side of the creek. And when said creek floods, no cars can get across the road and all of those people get stuck on one side or the other.

Ya wanna take a guess at who lives on the other side of that creek?
Uh huh, yep, thats right....Me!

So, for those of you who noticed my absence on IM Tuesday night...blame the creek. I got flooded in and couldn't get to work. (oh yeah, my managers were thrilled with that) Well, one of my neighbors drives a big, huge, 4-wheel drive, lifted truck. I'm talking lifted as in "if you get a good running start and use a spring board, you just might get in" type lifted. So this morning, it stopped raining for a few hours and the water went down enough for him to drive across. I had to get in to work (no one to cover for me tonight) and so they decided they were going to hook one cable to the front of my car and another to the back and pull me through the water.

Keep in mind...my car is little...the two cables were hooked to the upstream side of the car...for the purpose of keeping it from flipping over in the water!! This is a trick that we have done several times and I knew that it would work, but this was the first time I had ever done it with the water so high. Those of you who know me, know that one of my worst fears is drowning in an enclosed space...like a car.

Obviously, I didn't drown and we ended up getting me across just fine. But it has started raining again and now I can't get back home. So yours truly is living in a hotel until the rain gods decide to stop drenching poor California.

Please? Curious is ready for some sunshine.

We here in Arizona will gladly take that rain. Please send it ASAP! We are in a seven+ year drought. Phoenix just ended a 143 day dry spell about a month ago, but it needs to rain steadily for many days to end the drought.

We have the Grand River here that floods once in a while.
You see people prepareing their boats at their houses, and
parking their cars up by the main road. So they
paddle their row boats to get to their cars..
Their so use to it now, but it is funny to see.

Yep, if it weren't for the big trees that get carried down we would do that. Scrambled across a fallen tree once to get across after we had been stuck in there for a week or two and people were running out of food.

Flooding, because of all of our rivers and creeks, actually doesnt happen that much around here. But when it does, yeah it sucks ass. Def dont envy you there. Try to stay dry!

curious082385 replies on 4/12/2006 5:50 am:
Yes well you suck!
And I am trying to stay dry, but the rain gods must hate me. Every time I see the rain letting up a bit and run outside to do something...it inevitably starts to pour again just as I step out the door.

That is something. Glad your crossing went smoothly...hang in there...and stay away from those crossing til the water levels fall. Sometimes life is just like that.

curious082385 replies on 4/12/2006 5:51 am:
Yep, I'm stuck up here in town until the water goes down. There isn't anyone to cover me at work so I have to be able to get here.

Wow they need to send the rain my way!! I just want all the rain and coldness and what not If I get them all, then you can go home

curious082385 replies on 4/12/2006 7:29 am:
Well, the clouds that are sitting over my head now are (hopefully) on their way towards Arizona at the request of Yukon, but there are supposed to be more coming in this weekend...I'll see what I can do to wave them off and send them your way.

It's sunny in Atlanta!

curious082385 replies on 4/12/2006 7:40 am:
No it's not! It's just as cold and wet and gray over there as it is here!

I am in denial...can you tell?

I got a good laugh from that! Our sky is still clear, I don't think the clouds are listening.

Well, I'm not having much luck directing the clouds away. If you figure out the trick for controlling the weather, please let me know.

Well at least you work in a nice hotel! Question: Which side would you rather be stuck at/in?

That's an intense picture. Remind me and I'll post one that I took, under similar conditions, a couple of weeks ago.

Yeah, I'm still [blog 1hotwahine]

curious082385 replies on 4/13/2006 4:33 am:
Umm...tough question. A break from work would be nice, but that also means stranded at home with my family with flickering power. So I think stuck in town wins out. This time anyway.
