The true definition of a hero

I recieved this from a Friend. This is a True story. I hope you enjoy. Have a Great weekend, Chris

I went to my son's school a week before they closed for the summer ( he is almost 9). the teacher asked for everyone to write an essay on who thier heros are and draw a picture. Alot of the little kids were saying superman, Batman, spiderman, occassionally a fireman or even a police man. I want you to know my son who i didnt know was going to do this and made me cry wrote the following:

" MY HEROS
My Mom for being a Marine, and she is the best bescause she makes sure I get hugs, kisses and love.
My Dad for Being in the Navy and helping the Marines and he is cool because he makes sure I go fishing and make rockets.
My papa ( his grandfater) because he is a Marine who fought in Vietnam where a lot of people died, but he stayed safe because my uncle Lyn, who was in the Navy. Papa is my best friend, next to micheal, because he has bunny rabbits. Uncle Lyn lets me shoot a bow and arrow even though mom doesnt like it.
My Pepa ( his greatgrandfather) because He spent 37 years in the Marines and went to places like Korea, and even fought against the people who were trying to kill my family. I like him because also he alsways gives me money.
My Mema ( his great grandmother) becuase a really bad guy named Adolf Hitler wanted to kill her because we are Jewish and i dont know why because she makes the best cookies.
My Unlce Lorne ( that is my twin brother) because he is in the CIA and kills bad people like Osma Bin ladens friends. he is cool because he took me snorkiling.

My family is full of heros. They all joined the Military and when your in the military you protect our freedom so people cant take away Mema's cookies, Pepa's money, Uncle lorne's Snorkiling, Papa's bunnies, Unlce lyn's bow and arrows, dad's fishing and my mom's hugs. When i grow" up I want to be a hero, just like my family. "

And I was the one in the back of the room crying like a little school girl. My heart just melted when my almost 9 yr old stood and said he want ed be a hereo when he grows up. At nine years old he knows the true definition of HERO

If you are a part of your child's life, then you too will be able to instill in him some values that will make you proud. Not being a full time parent doesn't mean you don't have an influence on your child. This story just goes to prove just how far the influence can go with your kiddo.
But I already know you know this and I already know that you are a great dad.

I thought it was a very cool story too. I served cause it was something I felt I needed to do. for the people like you and your hubby, that don't take our rights for granted.

p.s. the only ones in my family that served were both my grandfathers.

I do understand you don't need to be a full-time parent to instill GOOD values in your child, BUT you do need to be able to see him to instill the values you so truly hope he will have

And every one of those "Hero's" would have said: I was just doing my job. Those who've been in or are in, police officers, fire fighters, and the like...we're all "just doing our jobs."

I agree with you 100%, cause that's how I felt about it whether it was my military service or my EMT service.

I would have been blatting like a baby.. He has every right to stand tall and be proud of the son he is raising and the history that child proudly talks about. T

I know I would be crying like a schoolgirl if that was my Dex that said that. And to have those heroes in his life on a daily basis must be extraordinary
