"liberal" is NOT a four-letter word!

i had breakfast this morning with a friend who shares my liberal political views - how refreshing! why has "liberal" become a dirty word, and why have we let it?
i am a hippie from the 60s and proud of it! one of things i've learned that is of great importance to me is that my partner, whoever he may be if we ever meet, will have to share my political views at least somewhat . . . i know for sure that i could never be happy with an evangelical, a neocon, or anyone like that.
how about you? how important to you is it that your partner share your political views? are politics and current events some of your own interests? do you want them to be of interest to your partner?
let me know what you think!
ok - a ps - i'm NOT looking for a thought-clone of myself, but someone at least on the same page as i am regarding things political

i think a bit of 'different thinking' keeps any relationship exciting and interesting. you wouldn't want to sit across from a clone of yourself all day, would you? no serious arguments allowed, but 'vive le difference'!

Oh lively debate every time for me, love the challenges! I am a libertarian by instinct, views and lifestyle. Now THERES a novelty

My political activity pretty much ended with the Viet Nam War but, back then most people had to choose sides. I was a VVAW like John Kerry and at demonstrations in DC. Even though my girl friends and I shared the same basic belief, we still argued endlessly. I still vote and keep up with how we are getting screwed by Bush however, there just isn't the same feeling in the air for change like back in the 60's.
