my raleigh restaurant boycott (rude service story)

the new cheeburger cheeburger at brierdale shopping center (across from brier creek) has a service problem that is causing me to boycott it from now on. usually i'm willing to wait until i get a couple of negative reviews before avoiding a place. but in this case, it was not only rude, but illegal.

one of my coworkers went in there with his wife. they sat down next to another table where the patrons were ordering. shortly after they sat down two other tables were filled. two different servers helped all the other tables except them. both other servers made eye contact with them and then walked away. both the table that was ordering when they went in and one of the tables that had sat down AFTER they got there received their food and still my friends had not had anyone bring them menus or even talk to them.

my coworker stood up and spoke to the male server and asked for assistance. the server made eye contact and then turned around and walked away. eventually my friend got upset and went and talked to the manager. to his credit the manager offered to serve them personally, but he should have noticed that there were two people not being waited on in the 20 minutes they were sitting there. the place is not that big.

i bet you are wondering why this happened? so am i. but we all have a pretty good idea. my coworker is white and his wife is black. every single employee and all the other patrons where white. draw your own conclusions. but i won't be eating there.

Nah! That doesn't go on in the South any more! Remember, I use to work for a black Police Chief that was called "The Green-eyed N****r" by the town! Some places have still not left the civil war! Grrrr! I hate racism.

I had a similar experience at a local franchise of a national chain. When I complained (respectfully of course) the manager shrugged his shoulders and said, "Sorry". That was it! You can bet I want be going back there anytime soon.

A local Cracker Barrel was "So glad I was white." when I showed up for my interview and the door was shut. Needless to say, I didn't stay to complete it.
