This one's is for you

In a previous post of mine, For our troops, redswallow777 commented about his feelings regarding our presence in Iraq. I replied, trying to get him to see things a bit differently. Now don't get me wrong, I am a firm believer that we are all entitled to our own opinion. This is one of our rights as citizens of this great country that men have died to defend.

fun4allin2006 made a comment that I think deserves to have it's own post. This is what he said:

Let me just say that a few years ago I also thought the only reason we are here is for the oil, but this year unlike so many before, I have looked into the eyes of children who had no future, talked to parents who say that the Americans are there saviors. They tell me that it is not for them that they take a stand but for their children. They remember the 70s and think of them as golden years-(Saddam took over here in 79). Sweet wonderful kids who want to see the Americans who have given their parents new life. I speak daily with an Iraqi LtCol who was retired from the old military on 2.00 a month-he gives me a hug and says God has sent the American people here for the future of Iraq. It is hard to walk away with a dry eye. I tell you friends, I am by no means special-Just a single soldier doing the will of those in power, but when I see these things, I can only say-Can I stay longer? Please pick me. I will go to the distant land and help a country that is crying out for help. I do not expect anyone to understand until they have come to this country and walked in the Iraqi peoples shoes. It is sad to see how this country degressed in the last 20 years. We have many problems in our country, but I believe that every person that really wants something better for their family truly can have it. Here the those people were at the very least placed in jail. It truely was as bad as they say, and I do believe that we have a tough road ahead, but damn it we need to finish this one for the children over here........My Iraqi LtCol drove all the way in just to wish it to me. How many of you can say that someone would risk their life on New Years day for just a simple greeting. Blessed I am this year. Thank you all!

From the bottom of my heart, I tell you that I am humbled and honored to have this man comment on my blog.

Kisses & Hugs,
Candy

Very nice. Having been to Iraq myself, I have seen how the Iraqi people react to the American presence. For the most part, they do like the fact that we are there and do support us in our cause to help them become a free nation and to set up a military of their own. The insurgents are not winning the war, and the people who live in the towns of Iraq make it known that the insurgents are not wanted there and are no longer welcome. They also let it be known that they no longer fear them and support their own military that is being stood up.

Keep up the good work, Candy.

Both my heros on one page. Thanks girls you both deserve a hug for pushing me into this. I also am sorry that people get hurt. What are his feelings now? I honestly haven't talked to many after they left here broken.
