Hurricane Rita Update Part 4

I have not been able to talk with my ex-wife and son so far. I did find out that she had call city hall and left a message on the answering machine that she is staying with her sister in Gulfport until the power is restored. The oldest daughter has 2 small babies and the heat would be to hard for them.

The house has lost most of the singles and some of the black roofing has been torn off exposing the roof. I could not go inside to check how much rain damage it has caused.

There are seven large oak trees around the house with only one with branches overhanging the southwest corner of the house. Some fell on the roof and slid to the ground, but did not break the roof. None of the trees fell, but some large branches and most smaller branches are scattered
all over the yard. It will take a crew several days to get rid of all the branches.

The oldest daugther was living there in a trailer and the roof has completely been blown off. She had moved 3 months ago to a house they had bought north of Lake Charles. They had donated the trailer to a couple in their church who needed a place to live. They were waiting to have the trailer moved, but now it is a total loss.

My ex-wife told me before she left that she would leave the dog in the workshop and the cat in the garage. They both was happy to see me. They still had food and water. The dog ran out before I could stop her to put a chain on her. The cat was not as fast and just slowly walked around happy to be outside again.

I let the dog run around and went visit with my ex-neighbor and friend. They were all right and had returned yesterday from northeast Louisiana.
They had a metal storage shed ripped off the foundation and blew over his home and landed in the front yard of my ex-wife. He also have a few trees and his yard was full of branches. He has only 15% of his heart working, but his only son and a few friends cleaned up his yard by the time I got there.

Take care.
