Power to the people

It was a black day for Aucklanders today.

As we edge even further into the new millennium, our fair city was plunged into darkness and chaos by Mother Nature.

Bitch!

Apparently she caused some high voltage feeders to cross and touch each other, resulting in a fucking major blowout and line breakage. Taking out power to a substation which powered near 80% of the city.

Hey that's cool! I love single point of failures and a complete lack of redundancy where I live. That's so fucking comforting for me. Especially as my businesses rely on power. Completely. Well... clients too... but you know what I meant.

So there we were. Fucked for most of the day. I had a complete loss of internet access which meant I did fuck all.

It's times like that, you just look forward to the news to see what the problem was all about and what they're gonna do.

...and that's when I got pissed off.

Not because of the power cut. I understood that.

Not because of the power company, they took responsibility and admitted that things still needed improving. I understood that.

Not because of the Government, who agreed that we had further to go and were working towards reducing any chance of this reoccurring. I understood that.

Nope. It was the fucking obnoxious woman who hosted the news program and was interviewing the Energy Minister and the CEO of the Power company.

I thought her skills were shocking. She was aggressive and completely ignored what was being said.

She seemed to have her own agenda which she was hell bent on pushing.

What are you doing about it.

When an answer was given, her response was Don't you think you're over simplifying it?

In her next breath she's saying how she's no expert and doesn't understand.

What the fuck woman!

Then *she* over simplifies it.

Double standards bitch! Double fucking standards.

Damn I was pissed off.

Go find yourself a fucking talkback station to work on. With that ignorance you displayed cleverly disguised as probing journalism, you have a future there for sure.

After all... talkback hosts only seem interested in getting their audiences so fucking incensed that they ring up to rant.

Rant? Rant!? I'll give you a fucking rant. But I'll put an IGNO in front of it and slap it to your forehead.

Fuck! I could be a complete twat on TV for far less than she makes. Perhaps I should give them a call.

I dunno. I just guess that with the majority of Aucklanders already pissed about the days events, I just saw her as trying to start a freaking riot. Blame monger.

Please let someone pop a laxative into her morning coffee.

Seriously_Real??? I think I found my candidate!

Having worked at a newspaper it's funny to see how the reporters working there look down their noses at broadcast journalists. They don't consider them to be journalists at all for the most part, just a pretty face.

Have tongue, will use it. Repeatedly.

One of our Honolulu stations is like that. "This just in!" type of on the scene live reporting. "We're going live with Cecile where police are investigating an incident at O'Douls about 10 minutes ago!" - for what? A barfight???

Yeah, I'm still [blog 1hotwahine]

Sheeeesshhh!! You need to calm down, Hobbit Boy!! I know you're getting wound up tighter than a spring, but at this rate, you're going to take one look at her face as she comes through the Arrivals Gate, and you're going to soil your undies!!

Deep breaths now, deep breaths.

♥♥HH♥♥

PS. Oh, and I agree about the dumb-ass journo thing... we've got them here too... pretty faces, no brains... apparently they call it "dumbing down"...

Love, hugs and kisses from ♥♥HH♥♥

I shall dispatch the Big Bad Karma Man to her place of business forthwith, good sir.

"Talkback" is a great term for it. We just call it "talk." Hmm.

Dumb slag.

The biggest miracle is that with 1/2 the North Island blacked out - we still had fucking power. Yep, a miracle I tell ya. It normally only needs a seagull to fart on the powerlines and we're fucked for a couple of hours.

It sounds like she has been taking lessons from CNN or FOX News. I fully support free press but free press is now infringing on the rights and liberty of others in the name of a 'free' and inunencumbered media. Personally, I believe reporters and the news outles should be held criminally and financially accountable for their actions. Maybe integrity would be restored to the newsroom. Hey, why don't you and I start our own news network. We could call it Hillbilly Kiwi Network and feature News, Weather, Sports, and Sex segments with live nude reporters.

Bulging,

Mr. Bambi here...

Seems like every region has a person like the news woman. Here in the US there is a guy names Jessie Jackson. Although a hero and visionary to some, he is more the type of person who tries to capitalize on the chaos he intentionally creates with rhetoric.

There was a newswoman like that down in Florida...she tried to make everything into a huge deal and would get noticeably frustrated when whomever she was interviewing disagreed with her.

I doubt I'd go anywhere near that one.

Way to noisy and in desperate need of conditioning.

Bulging Boy... Filling the condoms and leaving them in the shadows

Yeah, well this one I don't even credit with that.

Funny how ignorance can make even a good looking person look ugly.

Hey Frangi,

Yeah... everyone had internet but us. I even had to rely on my good lady to inform me as to the state of affairs. How embarrassing.

Good to hear the result. I was a little annoyed that our coverage didn't extend to that match.

Have to say tho... you do have a bit of a tough pool. Brazil and Croatia? Ouch. Still... at least you qualified.

I know.

Would it kill them to just say...

"Nope. Nothing interesting happened today"

Instead of making news where there isn't any.

Fuckwits.

Yeah,

Here we have a classic talkbalk host called Leighton Smith.

This guy is the wank of all wanks. He's an opinionated twat with a knack for inflaming any situation with his complete ignorance.

Anytime someone starts to make headway with him... it's...

*click* Ok... Now we have Shirley from Te Atatu...

So true Chasing,

but when you consider the amount of salt in the seagulls fart... it has to be pretty corrosive on contact with 22kV of our much needed power.

Exactly Mr Bambi,

These are the sorts of pricks that get right under my skin.

They throw in the match, they feed the fire... then they pin the blame on their pre-appointed scapegoat.

and they get paid good money for that as well.

Un.believeable.

Worse still... people lap it up.

Well yes bulg

Susan Wood does take after Paul Homes - after all its his show that she now runs... May be she does need a good 'morning wood' up her - who knows.

What I can tell you about the black out was that stuffed up my week, put me a two days behind as I had to spend an extra day in Auckland before heading home to the big puddle in the middle of the Island.

What impressed me was the way everyone just got with life, did the best they could etc and just made things happen... the kiwi way... like the guy doing point duty on Queen Street because the lights were out. Classic stuff, caught on TV and all!

Me thinks maybe you need to change chanels TV3 were far more convivial and put a human face on things, spent time on the big Snow, not blowing sunshine up Auckland's arse again - which only makes everyone hate Aucklanders more!

I mean lets get real here. A couple of hours without power, woopti do, days without power phone or even able to get out because 3ft of snow fell over the countryside - theres a real story!

I totally agree Mush,

TV3 is far more entertaining than TV1. Susan Wood is just an uptight slapper in my opinion, and yeah... just cause she took over from Holmes doesn't mean she should continue with the I'm a complete cunt interviewing style.

As far as not understanding how worse other places have it? Man... that's not me. I felt sorry for those down Christchurch way who have been out for a day... with those temperatures, it really becomes life or death.

Nope, but I can understand the point of view when NZ's largest city falls into damned near total blackout. Not exactly a good look. Plus the CBD businesses had to close their doors again, albeit for a shorter period of time.

I was pleased the power came back up so rapidly, which is what I expected, after all... it was only a single feeder that broke. If it had taken more than a day... I'd have been on the streets with a pitchfork.

Like I said in my rant. I understood everything except Wood's persistently bad interviewing style.
