Happy Birthday to me

Broken families.

*sigh*

I never planned on having one, and I guess I grew up as a child oblivious. Oh sure, I had some friends who's parents had split up, but I never really paid it much mind.

Kids adapt. They'd prefer parents stayed together... but at the end of the day... they just deal with things as best as they can.

One of the things I took for granted being in a 'typical' family was the birthday run.

One parent would take the kids out shopping for presents while the other would stay at home or mind the birthday child.

Kids love birthdays, they love presents and they love the idea that stuff makes people happy.

This week was my turn with the kids, and as luck would have it... their mother was out of town on a work related conference.

Which meant they had no one to take them shopping for my present.

Last night daughter #2 looked at me rather forlorn and said... daddy, we haven't got you a present yet.

I just gave her a hug and said, shall we go to the shops now then?

Well... her jaw is obviously stronger than I imagined, cause her mouth went from frown to Cheshire Cat smile in less than a second. If that was me... mine would have snapped with the G-Forces.

Nothing they got me would have been more valuable than the feeling I got when they realised all was not lost on the present front.

So off to the shops we went.

In this day and age, most malls have the places where everything is as cheap as fuck. We have the $2 shop.

For anyone who doesn't have something like this, it's basically a shop which sells the cheapest and tackiest stuff imaginable. Quality control? Never heard of it.

It's a bazaar of glitter and shite. A kids wet dream. If they had wet dreams of course. I'm sure you get the idea.

So I duly walked with them to the shop, where I was instructed to stand and wait outside. Which I did.

After about ten minutes, the eldest came running out asking for the money. I gave her a twenty and she went running back in overjoyed.

*sigh*

It made me think of people that send birthday cards to themselves.

Of course it's not even in the same ballpark.

Here I have four wildly adorable kids, hell bent on getting me something they think will make my day.

Who the fuck am I to take that away from them.

So... while I may have initially been slightly saddened by my broken family realisation... I couldn't be happier that my kids are still as affectionate and excited about birthdays.

Besides. It's not going to be broken for long. I have my super glue arriving on Monday and I can't wait.

The kids are excited, I'm excited... It's fantastic.

So the birthday will be over soon, but my *real* present arrives in just over a day. Unlike most that only last a short time... this one is going to last me forever.

and that's *still* not long enough.

Just remember what I told you at Christmastime about your present. Don't get TOO excited while you are unwrapping your present.

Have tongue, will use it. Repeatedly.

go easy on her, dont break her, youhave forever to take your time, and enjoy. im so happy for you two.

    muah, bug
Hey Bug,

Nice to see you here, thanks for taking the time to pop some words down.

Fortunately, she's not on the plane *yet* but... as soon as she is?

Man... I go into hyper mode. Hyperventilation, Hyperactive...

I can so relate to the being at the airport waiting, I could actually imagine myself doing that.

LOL

Break her? We've got a running joke that *I'm* not going to last the week. Safe money would be on that.

Happy Birthday Buldge,

I cried as I read this, happy tears and sad tears...

She knows when your birthday is, why the fuck did she not take the kids shopping when it was her week with them!!

That pissed me off (sounds like something my ex would do). He recently got me thongs (from Little Frangi) for Mothers Day, again for Christmas and yet AGAIN for my Birthday...how many pairs of thongs can a girl wear (the feet type not G strings)

Anyway, the happy part is, the kids had fun shopping wfor you, you got to spend your birthday with them and more presents arriving on a plane REALLY soon.

Happy Birthday, I am having a drink in your honour as I type this.

Frangi x

I can't see that your kids have ever felt broken...with a daddy like you how could they? Sometimes the best present (and you seem to know this) is seeing the joy on their faces because they've done something for YOU. Worth much more than $20.00 yes? Happy Birthday Bulgy darlin...you're a stellar man, the world needs more like you. (((Hugs)))

I make mistakes, I am out of control & at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best. ~Marilyn

Happy birthday! Well they must have some stuff a little better at the $2 store than the $1 stores here..lol. That just reminded me of all the tacky stuff they had at Santa's workshop in elementary schol. I remember getting my dad nail clippers with a blue penguin or some equally silly animal picture on them...

Awwwww... we do that, I take her to the dollar store here, just down the street... I am dying to see The List of all the useless crap they got for you for that $20 that you now have to pretend like you love and will use all the time, this ought to be great!

... between them, and your "gift" arriving on Monday, sounds like you are having the best birthday anyone could ever have... I'm envious...

Apparently the depth of depravity here is bottomless... don't you feel right at home?

Shit I'm sorry to hear that Frangi,

While I'm able to excuse the ex cause lets face it, sometimes things come up, and we get busy... forget... stuff like that... the same gift every fucking time is a little bit pointed.

When it comes time for his presents. Keep getting tampons. When he eventually asks, you can say... well you keep acting like a cunt.

Hey Buddy,

Ahhh don't sweat the mist mate, I've had my share of tears with them.

Thanks for the well wishes. I'm looking forward to it all.

Awww thanks Pix,

Yeah $20 is pitiful compared to seeing them happy. I was more than a little touched seeing them run into that shop to buy me something.

Hi Real,

When you take the exchange rate into consideration, and then the volume discounts that your stores would get, I'd say ours probably works out to be the 50 cent store in your currency.

Still... you can get some pretty wild shit there.

If I had a list SJ, I'd probably send them cards myself as well.

As far as the lousy IM, the lousy comment and the hairy man boobs are concerned...

I'm gonna quote Meatloaf... Cause 2 out of 3 aint bad.

You know Mari,

As I look around at the amazing friends I have made here, my kids and my stunning girl... I feel for the first time ever, really really lucky.

What amazes me more, is that I keep coming into contact with more wonderful people who I hope will end up in the first group.

Interested? AdultFriendFinder.

LOL I just put that last part in cause there's obviously so many munters and spakkers on this site that put their email addresses up.

You know Feisty,

I'm at the point now where those cheap crappy gifts mean more to me than anything. Other than the present opening on my actual birthday and being with the kids, it was all a bit anti-climatic because as far as I'm concerned, my birthday really is on Monday.

Thanks Micah,

Thats quite a compliment. I do try to make them aware how important they are to me. A challenge on some days I can assure you, unless you have some of your own.

I'm realising how little time I have with them while they're at this stage of their life and you could say there's a pang or two of regret that I may have squandered some of it.

Thanks for the birthday wishes as well.

Well Bulge, if you're an old c**t, Happy Birthday from an even (slightly) older old prick!

So you weren't really born on the 1st of June? (Or you like having two sets of birthdays...check your profile hon!)

Now good things come in threes, so you have your birthday, Lil's arrival and baby No. 5 (that's it - the psychic said someone around me would be having another child!)

No, no, it's OK, don't go into cardiac arrest yet! I was only kidding ya! (It must be that stranded baby possum that found you're way into your backyard! - LOL!!)

ella XX

MANY HAPPY RETURNS!!!

Thanks for that Ella,

Yeah, the birthdate on the blogs was done on purpose, for what reason I now have no idea. Seeing as my beautiful lady has advertised my true date... I shouldn't have bothered.

LOL

Baby number 5? Fucks sake. Chance would be a fine thing. She keeps taking contraception.

Hmmm... See? She's way smarter than me too!

I am so happy that i'm not the only 'adult' that still seems to like birthdays!!!! If you ever met me in 'real' life and it was anywhere near my birthday oh, you'd know it...I love my birthday!!! and I'll be 49 this year (yikes when did THAT happen? ) My 'kids' are 20 and soon to be 23 with a future daughter in law that is 23 so they do remember, and that's very nice...I usually get something fun and impractical from my daughter that i'd never get for myself and love...last present she got for me was a pedicure, i'd have one weekly if i could... my son usually takes me out for dinner and his fiance sees to it that he gets me something more tangil vbble. ( and that's okay because she has great tastes) I really love my Birthdays
