Florida bound for the week

I'm getting packed for my latest business trip. I'm looking forward to the trip itself, since I've never been to Ft. Lauderdale, AND I'm actually going to have a day off while I'm down there. But, I do feel a little guilty stress about the timing now. It's still nothing compared to the stress I have been under there lately.

I may be starting a new job soon, and it just doesn't seem fair to be going on this trip knowing that I'll probably be giving my notice within a couple days of my return. I'm excited about the job offer because it's only 5 minutes from school and it's something I know so very well. Since it's local, it doesn't have all the added responsibility of a regional manager position like I've got right now. That means when I'm at work, I'll be at work, and when I'm at school, I'll be at school - I won't be worrying so much about what's going on in Providence, Norwalk, Ft. Lauderdale, or Raleigh while I'm in class.

Anyway, I've got to call my 'new boss' when I get back in from Ft. Lauderdale so we can sit down and discuss the business end of things. I'm kind of hoping that I'll be able to work for the new folks part time while I'm working my last week or so at the old job. That is, if my current boss doesn't fly mad and tell me not to bother about coming in. If he does that, then I guess I'll just miss out on full pay for a couple of weeks.

I haven't totally confided in my mom about my fears that my boss is just waiting to fire me in order to save his own butt, so she thinks I may be a bit premature in leaving because of the benefits. Well, right now, the only benefit I can draw is a little personal time (12 hours). I haven't been working full-time, so I'm not eligible for insurance or any retirement plan yet. I'll be taking a cut in my hourly wage, but the difference in the gas and mileage will more than make up for it, especially if there are enough hours available for me to pay my basic bills. Another possible perk is that my potential new boss lives really close to me. That means, in the event that I have car trouble or the weather is really bad, we can carpool.

All said, I'm under less stress, so I'm beginning to feel like playing some. Too bad I'm going to be away from my computer until Dec. 23rd. I'd love to meet someone in the Ft. Lauderdale area to show me the sights. But hey, maybe I'll be lucky enough to meet someone while I'm walking on the beach one morning. Now, that would be a good fantasy to fulfill,....
