sunday's ride

i got my usual early start around 7am,i took my silver bike as i knew i would be covering over 500 miles today.
my destination i already planned and the route so it was pretty much a typical trip to teh twisty's.
hwy 197 really sets me up for the rest of the day, when i am on this road i know if i am in the grove or not and today was going to be a good day.
i made quick work of this raod and ended up on 76 wanting some more,,this early i knew i would not have to worry about popo, until i got to clayton, they usually have it covered up.
i headed north after clayton to catch 246 up to highlands, the first few miles are great, nice roadside waterfalls and excellent pavement.
the ride up the mountain was perfect for touching down a knee in the corners.
i made it to highlands and it was pretty much empty,so i made my cruise on 64 over to cashiers and then north on 107.
107 has a nice waterfall on it,but the rest of the road is crap,,mostly bad pavement.
i took 281 from 107 east so i goood make it to 215 just south of the brp.
281 has some nice pavement and excellent sweepers, very few cars.
charley creek rd has some new pavement as well, this road is tight and technical with hairpins and switch backs.
hwy 215 came in no time so i headed north to my favorite overlook just south of the brp.
took a break and listened to the motorcycles getting on the brp.
after my little snack break i headed north on 215 to check out a couple of waterfalls before taking the brp.
i knew the brp was closed east of 276 towards asheville so i headed west, this still gave me a good 70 miles of the most spectacular views and perfect road to ride, just had to watch my speed those popo up there are sneeky.
15 miles into my westward trip i see the suspect flashing headlights behind me,no blues yet but i knew i was running 80 so i start looking for the nearest pulloff.
here comes mr po po man flying up on me as i pull off and then fly's on around me shaking hs finger at me.
hmmmmmmmm i knew he was headed to wreck,i had heard a couple of bikes get on the brp while taking my break and they were wailing.
i continued on with my trip and at more sedate pace since the hornets nest had been disturbed.
shortly after the waynesville exit i came upon the scene,a couple of bike off to the right, the usual er vehicles and one smashed up 30,000 dollar ducati,damn..............
just damn.
looks like a car was involved, and i'm not sure if the rider was ok because i couldn't stop.
onward to cherokee,i really enjoyed there rest of my trip and picked my pace up a little more.
the rest of my trip was a boring pace down 441 back into clayton, once there i headed west on 76 back over to 197.
my fav little road to end the day with,i felt good still lots of energy so i started to push.
well the bike pushed back on me and i almost ended up in a ditch, front tire started to slide a bit on this 600# bike,i guess that was my end of day wake up call,my sense of mortality came back sweeping back so i backed off the pace and enjoyed the rest of my trip.
never quit made 500 miles but i still had a blast with lots of daylight left,i guess this was just a test run for my future iron butt rides.
