An utterly worthwhile challenge

Remember the film The Land Before Time?

If you're a child born in the late '70s (like I am), or the early '80s, you probably do: four oprhan dinosaurs (Cera, Ducky, Petrie, Littlefoot) go on an adventure to explore and sing songs and do stuff. And that's... about it. Schnidler's List it's not, but it was a rare animated non-Disney hit (although the film's director, Don Bluth, did time at the Mouse House in the '70s and '80s) and did decent numbers at the box office.

So of course a sequel came. And another. And another. And another. And another. And still yet another.

There's ELEVEN LBT films. 11! And after the first one, they all have goofy subnames. For instance, #2 is called The Land Before Time: The Great Valley Adventure. #3 is The Time of the Great Giving. (Doesn't that sound like Thanksgiving?) My personal favorite is #7: The Stone of Cold Fire, which is not only nonsensical, but also ironic.

So what does this have to do with me?

Well, I've laid out a challenge for myself: one weekend, when I have nothing better to do, I will find all eleven LBT films, and watch them all within the span of a weekend.

Why? Because I'm mental.

Actually, I think this could be a fun challenge: how many LBT films can I watch before I go berserk and go on a 3-state shooting spree? I've got the over/under at #9 (Journey to the Big Water) before I snap. All those bright colors and pastels and all those "Yep, yep, yep!" lines from Ducky will do me in sooner or later. It's just a matter of when.

So if I can FIND all 11 films (there's three movie stores within walking distance, so it's possible they'll all add up to the entire series), that's how I spend a weekend. And should I live to tell about it, I'll blog about this life-altering experience.

Doesn't this prove I need to get laid, or what?
