What a very strange admission. I know, so I will not say very much more on why. But an interesting catalyst of chick flicks are the men within them. Yes the men in these romantic movies seem to do some crazy, far fetched things for the women they pledge their lives to.

William in a Princess Bride, fights, outwits, and completely runs on his adreanaline to save Buttercup from Prince Humperdink.

Harry finally decides that just knowing Sally, and ever little detail of her life is not enough he must commit everything to her because he loves her so.

Hitch, in the recent Will Smith movie jumps on a moving car because he wants to indicate he would do anything including fall for the women he loves.

The Humphry Bogart character in Sabrina jumps from the dock to catch the boat Audry Hepburn is on.

They all take risks. Men who love their women go above and beyond the call of duty and risk everything to be that knight in shinning armor. When I hear some say "why would a man play a violent sport like rugby/football/hurling/ride a motorcycle " It takes me aback.

This is a way your potential men are showing you that they are competant at risk taking. They are going to protect you if push comes to shove and knock the next man down to win your honour, claim your love and rescue you from drugery.

I don't think those are total chick flicks...they are probably more like "date" movies. a real chick flick is mostly women crying about life. BTW...Princess bride is one of the best movies! I would never want to run into a ROUS!. <---I think I got that right.

lol, I wonder if those nice men you are referring to ever played football, or another sport that is dangerous?

I would regard 'Man of the House' as a chick flick and the concept is exactly as Beewulf described. Tommy Lee cares for the girls he is protecting and does so with a zeal only granted to true heroes in life. He learns to open his heart in exchange for being the girls' protector and shows his gentle side with the meeting of his prospective new love. Yes I watch chick flicks: Even in them can you find a man getting his brains blown out and explosions. Yes!

Polly I hope you insipre that special someone to be your hero.

Pats, a date film in my humble opinion is any film that the two people want to see together. A chick film is one which is one slanted with a feminine perspective, just as a guy film is slanted with the masculine perspective. Maybe too general a defination.

Grendel, I find it interesting that you are writing in my blog. Beowulf and Grendel are not the best of friends. But thank you for the spin on the topic.

Oh my, to snuggle with Red... um I will be over with popcorn, a movie, and blanket in a bit.
