Thank God for Katrina
Thank God for Katrina
Now before you get down on me for being heartless, let me tell you that this was the beginning of a newspaper article a few days ago.
I'm a very tolerant person but I think that the 'religious-right' has reached the edge of reason & are now throwing people that are not like-minded off the edge.
The short article went:
"Thank God for Katrina,...It's a sin not to rejoice when God executes His wrath and vengeance upon America....Pray for more dead bodies floating in the ...rancid waters of New Orleans."
A statement from al-Qaida? No, this statement is from the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, a radical, anti-gay congregation. The church believes God sent Hurricane Katrina to destroy New Orleans because of it's tolerance for gays.
I've always fully believed in freedom of religion. Although, I still don't think Scientology is a religion. A philosophy maybe, but not a religion. I do believe that we have more to FEAR from the religious-right than al-Qaida or any of the other Islamic holy war groups.
You do know that if your a member of A F F, your obviously a target because of the 'ungodly' things that go on here. It dosen't take too much digging in the history books to come up with examples of how far people are willing go when they believe that GOD has told them something & they are the only ones that are right. It usually ends with someone dieing because they won't confess & join the belivers.
Sex in general has always been big SIN with most religions, except the maybe Mormons. After that the list goes on & on. Gays, clothing, reading materials, astrology, womens rights, sports(what? You don't remember about Sunday being holy?) and so on & so on.
It wouldn't be so bad if we were talking about 1 or 2 percent of the population. But look at our last national election. The religious-right had a large role in Grorge W's re-election & the 'control' of the Republican Party in general. When the Nazi's took control of Germany, they only had a small percentage of the population as members but the rest went along because the Nazi's said the right things. After they were in power everyone had to follow the new rules or they became enemies of the state.
I certainly don't believe that God sent Katrina to destroy the gays. To punish our country for the things George W's caused maybe. Or at least that's what would be said in another part of the world. Something like the plagues on Egypt.

Yes I was going to castigate you. The idiocy in D.C. is catching. We've all got short fuses. Jill|
