Getting ready for the 2006 season

I'm taking it easy this week, but on Monday, I get my monthly assessment with my trainer, and then, I start the off season workouts. I'm scoping out races already, and I think I will do an Olympic distance triathlon either in Arizona in March or in Las Vegas in April as my next race. After that, I hope to compete in a race every month or so, doing about six races total.

With that in mind, I put together my goals for the next six months:

- Complete an Olympic distance triathlon (1.5K swim, 40K bike, 10K run). Those distances are all double the sprint distances I just completed.

- Improve my breathing during swimming so I only have to breathe every 5 strokes. Right now, I'm breathing pretty much after every 2 strokes.

- Do flip turns while swimming. Doesn't help me in the race at all, but I've never done them in my life, and just want to look like all the other swimmers - lol.

- Run a 5K in 30 minutes. Basically, get down to a 10 minute mile pace.

- Lose 20 pounds. The less I weigh, the easier it will be.

- Get my body in balance ‒ shoulders back, feet straight ahead, improved flexibility in my calves and hamstrings. Mainly for appearances, but more flexibility is never a bad thing.
