The whole "smart & funny" thing

... is an online bear trap.

The internet was created by nerds for nerds allowing them to speak to each other in a way that makes nerds comfortable. Namely... not face to face.

The internet has created a world in which you can talk in real time to your boss and the head of a major Japanese corporation about fourth quarter growth projections whilst dressed up as a transgendered version of Bugs Bunny and being fellated by a one legged midget named Ramon.

My point is that the internet is largely about ideas and people connecting mind to mind.

Now as a guy who is about as far removed from conventionally attractiveness as John Merric's left testicle this should work for me. But in truth it doesn't... because as in the real world being smart and funny is nice but it isn't going to get you very far. Online, Ted Bundy's backward son can be "smart and funny" because all you need is a spell checker, a thesaurus and a few episodes of the Simpsons under your belt. So obviously Smart and Funny doesn't get you anywhere.

Well...

What smart and funny does get you online is platonic female attention. No matter how ugly you are, if you show a bit of wit on a public forum you'll get female attention, maybe a bit of flirting. But allow you anywhere near the exciting bits of their body? Noooooooooo!

So what's my point? my point is that smart and funny doesn't work online... it works much better in the real world. So if us "smart and funny" guys were anywhere near as smart or anywhere near as funny as we seem to think we are, we'd be out in the real world. But we're not. Not smart but fucking funny

Interesting picture... and smart and funny goes far with most real women in the real world too, just not with the ones who only care about looks.

If my boobs were bigger I'd be a BBW!

I suspect that smart and funny gets you a lot further in any environment, even on the internet, but I've found that its a lot easier to be smart and funny in real life than it is on the internet mainly because communication is only about 10% words - with body language, emphasis and tone making up the rest and this is so much easier to do in real life, smilies help but there's never enough of them to express yourself as clearly as you can when face to face.

I find it a lot easier to charm girls in real life, and its not just about looks, I've got friends who could be your twin (John Merrick's right testicle ) but they can pick up women every time they go out because they have that confidence that women like!

Anyway, just popped on to say thank you for posting some thought provoking and interesting questions, and welcome to the boards!
