Men At The Supermarket!

Ok...I'm making a list and checking it twice. I'm going to send my husband to the grocery store! Now, don't ask me why I'm sending him.....he will call me about every 2 minutes...or as long as it takes him to get to the next aisle. "Is this brand ok?" "What size should I get?"

You know...its my own fault! Honest it is. In the past, I would complain if he bought the wrong thing...or the wrong size. And he really just wants to please me....yes, even in the grocery store.

But maybe I've grown. Because, honestly, I don't care if it's the wrong brand, or the wrong size. We can make do. And we can always make another trip.....usually have to anyways. I'm just grateful that he went...and that he came home. Trying to please a woman could send men all running to the hills......except there wouldn't be any women to have sex with there....unless they could find the hills that [blog Mzhunyhole] lives in!

*Trying* to *Please* anyone who has their mind set
that they aren't going to be pleased is something that
just seems to happen *a lot*

I think that most people get a little bitchy about being
with someone who is not *naturally* pleased by what one
prefers to give into the relationship. RELATIONSHIPS can
be work...they certainly are about open and honest communication.
Maybe the goal needs to be to just go to the grocery store and
know that pleasing someone isn't at the top of the list. If it IS
at the top of the list then both parties would do well to
acknowledge that and be present accordingly!

As for me, I observe that the second wife usually is alittle
easier to please...perhaps it is the lessons in life that are
the real grocery list.

Just a little food for thought.............
If you really want to be happy, nobody can stop you...

Goddess..I think you are right that it is the lessons in life...not the grocery list! And I have learned that it just isn't worth losing sleep over. I lose enough sleep as it is!

You are absolutely right Angel

Does it really matter? His heart is indeed in the right place!!

Now with all that said.... I have not grocery shopped for or with my wife in probably 25 years.... the very last time we went together I kept asking if we needed this or that which she was trying to buy... and I looked at the labels and told her which was cheaper by volume or content... and well... I was just simply a total pain in the ass... she left the cart where it was and WALKED OUT of the store.. and we have not been back together since!!!

She has gone on extended vacations (a month at a time) to Hawaii several times in the last few years leaving me home alone (somebody has to work and pay for it! LO and I have shopped for myself then.... but otherwise she won't let me have anything to do with it!

And I am sure all you women will think that was my "plan"... well it was not.... not that I "miss grocery shopping" LOL LOL but it was not my intent......

Okay.. so now you all think I am a horrible cad.. I truly am not... maybe some things just aren't meant to be admittted?

angelofmercy5 replies on 4/15/2006 6:49 pm: I don't think you planned it to happen that way. But here's a thought. Next time she takes an extended vacation to Hawaii....lets have a slumber party at your house. Goddess and I will take you grocery shopping. Let's see, cucumbers, bananas, carrots, zuchinni.........pineapple, whipped cream, strawberries, chocolate sheets for fantasy's bed for when we ruin them with the chocolate.....never mind! I'll make a list. lol

You know, I can relate to this poor guy. I am eternally grateful for cell phones. I have one of those little wireless bluetooth ear pieces and I wear it whenever I go shopping for my wife. If I don't make 2 or 3 calls while I'm on my errand it's an absolute wonder. I think people have gotten used to hearing us poor husbands walking up and down the aisles of the supermarkets seemingly talking to ourselves.

And yes, my motivation is PRIMARILY pleasing my wife... BUT, keep in mind the corollary to pleasing her is pissing her off and that's somewhere I don't want to go.

Now, please don't tell her that I spoke up about this, she might not understand...

angelofmercy5 replies on 4/15/2006 6:50 pm:
VAT...poor least you have a cell phone to keep in touch with.

I just hate it when they send me for something Ive never even heard of before!!! Funny how things have differant names here on the east side of the country. Maybe its that for some reason I never had or tried it & apperently never even looked at it before. How is that possible?
Thank god for cell phones anyway! lol...

angelofmercy5 replies on 4/15/2006 6:53 pm: is funny how different the products can be. I can remember going to the grocery in Ohio to buy some know Diet Coke? And when we asked for soda they sent us to the backing aisle.....for baking soda. Because they call soda "pop" in Ohio! Thanks for stopping by.

Angel, you are one lucky lady to have a man who would do that for you. Mr Hansen does not shop. Period. BUT I know he would walk on hot coals for me, and you know what? That's good enough for me!!

We should all appreciate what we receive, especially when we know it's coming from the heart.

Angel...Never could be convicted as being a shopper, more of a buyer. Being a detail person by nature I kept track of what was in the pantry, Brand Name or generic.

Keeping things in perspective; it's only food and last only a few hours and ends up being ....! Not like the kids are being auctioned off or anything.

Being simple has it's advantages; if your're with the one you love at the end of the day, does it really make a difference what label was on the can in the afternoon?

btw, bringing home the right 'size' never seemed a real issue.

angelofmercy5 replies on 4/15/2006 6:58 pm: are a know that? And you are the end of the day if you are with the ones you love....what does it matter?

It is so like you to appreciate the effort your husband makes to please. I wish more women appreciated those little things. for those of us that aren't flashy, the little things are where we show our love. It is painful when those gestures are not noticed or appreciated...I think that's how I became numb...that and other things, but that's another story all together....

you are such a good, sweet woman Angel

angelofmercy5 replies on 4/15/2006 8:05 pm:
Seeku.....I haven't always been as appreciative. I think it is easy to fall into a pattern of taking each other for granted. To my husband's defense...he never stopped trying to please me...even when I didn't seem to appreciate the effort. Thinking about some of those times make me feel sad...and a little angry at myself. But, I will NEVER take him for granted again. And he always showed me unconditional love...because he loved me even when I wasn't acting very lovable. You have such a sweet heart Seek. I am honored to be a friend.

aom5, well you could take his cell phone, but since he is being helpful, maybe just overlook this small insecurity on making decisions at the store and trying to get it right. my wife (and youngest daughter)don't change the toiletpaper roll, just leave the empty cardboard on the dispenser with the fresh roll balanced on it. for some reasom as a child, i always liked to switch out the roll ( is that psychoanalytically anal, sheets to the front or back?). i think over the years she just overlooks this and subconsciously thinks the roll fairy changes it. many of the comments on this post remind me of the story about the picky woman who was a divorcee. she said with her first marriage she wanted the towels folded a certain way (funny my wife is the same-fold width wise first, i'm a length wise first guy). anyway, after the divorce she realized she just wanted someone to fold the towels any which way. many times we don't realize and appreciate what we have, til we don't have it anymore. don't sweat the small stuff. so what if the toilet seat isn't down or the top is left off the toothpaste. i must in all honesty relate this story: when newly married, i left the toilet seat up. early the next morning she went to use it, didn't check and sat down, falling into the commode. lol i got the riot act thrown at me. to this day i pull the seat down. for you single woman out there, one way to see if a man is house broken/ domesticated or not is if he leaves the seat up or down.

angelofmercy5 replies on 4/16/2006 5:22 am:
Swallows...what a wonderful comment. I have to agree with the toilet seat thing...there's nothing worse than falling in the commode when you are half asleep. Now to teach my grandson that.

PS. The toilet paper goes "over".

It's Easter morning, has the easter bunny hid any eggs at your house? Would you like him too? What's the best place to hide a filled chocolate Easter egg (something like a Cadbury egg)....

angelofmercy5 replies on 4/16/2006 5:46 am:
No Vat...the Easter bunny didn't hide any eggs at my house. However, I have heard from another blog on here that there IS a special place to hide a Cadbury egg......but only if there is someone available who really likes to EAT those eggs.

I did the shopping, I did the cooking, I took care of the accounts, cleaned house and took care of the outside too. She left me, said I was to controling. All I did was take care of her the best I could. I worked at home and had the time and skills to do it all. Sorry, don't know where that came from.
