Hurry Up! Summer's Almost Over!

This time of year always takes me back to remember some of my younger years. I used to work at a lake in Ohio. Hickory Lake Park. It was a campground as well as a popular swimming hole for alot of the county. I went to a country school....and in the summer....alot of the kids from other schools swam there. And alot of city kids camped there with their families.

Some of my fondest memories of my teen years center around that lake. The time that I walked barefoot in the morning to someone elses house. And burnt my feet walking back barefoot in the tar in the afternoon.

Making out on a blanket after swimming.

The jukebox playing "Wild Thing".

The bikini with ruffles on it......loved that bikini.

Waiting on the snooty city girls in the snack bar. And then taking their bras out of the locker room, wetting them down and freezing them in the deep freezer. Snooty girls!

Almost losing my virginity with the county "bad boy" in a camping trailor.

The owner of the park.....and my best friends Dad finding us there.

That almost "desperate" last grab of summer vacation. School supplies were being bought....but we did our best to grab the last days of summer. Eat those last snow cones at the County Fair.

What are some of your fondest memories of summers past?

My fondest revolve around my boys and summers at the lake, especially when they were young. Running into the lake with a boy on each shoulder and falling down in the water letting them 'rescue' Daddy. I nearly drowned a couple of times despite the help... lol

I have memories of many past summers, some are pleasant some are not. I remember summer vacations of my youth when we were able to actually take a vacation. Now it seems that my memories of summer now are more often thoughts of regret. I regret that we never really did something fun as a family, we talked of taking vacation trips but never did.

Our summer this year has been wonderful, we did lots of cookouts and pool parties but as the summer comes to a close I realize that we could have done so much more but we didn't. This is another of those "glass half empty or half full" analogies. I generally try to be optimistic but the end of the summer finds me with a real pessimistic attitude.

The end of summer always signals the beginning of the school year and even though our children are grown and gone it is still very depressing when the summer comes to a close.

My God, I'm so gloomy today, it must be the end of summer effect combined with the Monday effect.

Hey VAtraveler-we have over a month left to get more summer fun

My most remembered childhood summers are Sunday school picnics to either Coney Island or Palisades Amusement Park(no longer there).
One picnic I spent all my alloted money on the merry-go-round only(was between 8-10 yrs old)

Don't worry, be Happy

Reminds me of busting my ass to get money to buy a stereo. (This was back when the Stones still had an edge to them and home entertainment meant 2 speakers. THAT'S RIGHT TWO BIG SPEAKERS! LEFT AND RIGHT. The way God intended it to be.) Check out the story! Story Time (Yay!): Summer Memories.

"Sand-lot" baseball games in the big field beside our house... our "bike hikes" that back then seemed to be like miles and miles long (but ended up being maybe, barely a mile when I went back years later and re-traced the routes in my truck, keeping track of the odometer)... suppertime on our screened in porch... riding in the back of Dad's pickup truck to go to the Dairy Queen...

I haven't thought of this stuff in years! Thanks for sparking some rememberance for me! {=}

The "LAST SUMMER FLING" for the girls!
That's what I remember... cookout at the lake, talking about all the boys we liked, and some "did" the boys, of course we all had to listen Some parting ways between high school and college and some off to marry or move to other states.
Often times, some of us actually would make flights to the Bahamas and meet up for a reunion! Those were the best! Knowing what we know now ... my gracious, , sorry can't tell that

I can remember a certain Summer, before my 9th grade year in school. We had traveled to Florida for my Dad's 20th high school reunion. I had such a good time that I wanted to move there.

We did the next year.

I ended up going to the same high school as my Dad, and graduating.

My 20 year reunion is coming up next year, and I plan on taking my sons there... Who knows, may be the beginning of a family tradition.

i always loved summer when i was younger, knowing i could stay outside and play with my friends, go get ourselves lost in the woods, swimming in the muddy river water and knew my next birthday was coming up soon and that meant presents! now, this time of year depresses me from the simple fact, i know another birthday is coming up and i know cold weather and shorter days are around the corner.......

The summer I was 16 was pretty special. I had a little independence and MOBILITY, so my girlfriends and I could get to a nearby beach WITH NO ADULT SUPERVISION I had a huge crush on one of the life guards. We made out in the guard shack, but he eventually threw me over for a girl who would put out I went to the drive-in movies with a boy for the first time, a picnic-date by a secluded lake with another. I made it through the summer a virgin, but it was the summer that I discovered boys and they discovered me

I loved my summer holidays when I was young....It meant visiting relatives in their summer homes and my grandfather's orchard. It meant being involved with Daily Vacation Bible School and go into the rural areas and reading to the small children there. Such great memories. Oh yes of course going to the beach for family picnics on Sundays...those were always awesome!

My favorite summer memories are those I spent during my teenage years on Nantucket...great fun, great friends and actually got to meet James Taylor...yup, those were fun times. Of course dating a life guard didn't hurt...

The best summers were when I went on long trips with my Grandparents. Summer of 68 I flew (by myself, age 11) from Memphis to New York City, then drove with Grandparents out to Yellowstone National Park (back when it wasn't wall to wall people), Grand Teton National Park (right next door), then back down to Memphis, then they went on back to NY. Summer of 69 drove to NY with parents, then up to eastern Canada with Grandparents, and back to NY via the Boston area (and all that Revolutionary War history). Summer of 70 I forget anymore how I got to NY, but the trip was down the east coast, then in to the Appalachians, through Atlanta to Mobile (saw the battleship Alabama), then on to New Orleans, then Houston, then back up to Memphis again.

I recall a summer, I think I was 22 or so, when me and a buddy drove up to the mountains above Santa Barbara to a creek we'd been told about where people went skinny dipping. We were there in the buff when this girl about our age showed up alone. It isn't long before she's naked too, and she is HOT! My buddy offers her a beer from our cooler. She gladly accepts, comes over, and sits down between us. Oh man, I'm in heaven. But there's two of us, and just one of her. It's hot, and we all occasionally go for a swim to cool off, then back to the beer and just talking small talk. Neither of us makes any moves on her and she makes none on either of us. A good couple of hours go by, and nothing else happens. Finally, she gets up, gets dressed, thanks us for the beer, and leaves.

To this day I think about that time and kick myself wondering how it might have been very different. But then, the three of us weren't totally alone; there was a group of people not far away. So I dunno.

I'll add that I'm very light-skinned and got one HELL of a terrible all-over sunburn, including my cock!

mmm...time for reminiscing...slipping back into the halcyon days of my childhood. They are bitter sweet, since all my time was spent with my big sister..she was 18 months older than me..but we were very close.
Until our teenage years came along and she was working and I still at school, begging for a lone of her new jeans..which she could afford and I couldn't. She stopped lending them to me , when I forgot to turn the temporary turn-ups down again. We were the same waist but not leg length, you see. She being 5 inches hated that crease around the ankle. Even when washed it wouldn't go away, especially if the loaner had short enough legs for them to drag on the floor a little.
God, it makes me laugh, the arguments we used to have, over nothing! Wish she was still here, to laugh and argue with.

You know how the saying don't know what you have ...until it's gone!!!

Sailing on the Havel, the river that swells into lakes around the edges of Berlin. It was a while ago. I was about 15 at the time, and I'd sail with my little sister, my cousin or a friend. It was way back in the 1960s. One day I sailed too far and came face to face with a big grey East German gunboat. I'd accidentally sailed into East Germany! And the captain was shouting all this German stuff that I could barely understand, and there was a heavy duty machine gun mounted at the front. I guess I wasn't wanted there so I high tailed it back to the West.

And that is how Warm infiltrated the Soviet Bloc at the height of the Cold War!

I make it a point to enjoy EVERY Summer. My favorite time of year. When the seasons change to the cold, which is rarely gets that bad here in the South, I find Summer elsewhere. Florida is nice in the Winter. Nice memories you have and I had one of those bikinis' you are talking about. I still love that song, Wild Thing. It makes me sad when Memorial Day comes. It's almost like the end. But alas, it never does end. Take good care of yourself dear lady.

Hugs and love,
