A Little Help

If you read my blog, you know that I am going every day for radiation treatments. I teach a group of students at a local college in the medical field. These students are with me for 3 sememsters....an entire year...and we get to know each other real well. They too, know that I'm getting these treatments every day.

The parking situation at the college is horrible. They have a faculty lot....clear on the other side of the campus. On a nice day, its a nice walk. If it's raining....its awful...deep puddles everywhere. There is a parking lot right in front of the building my classroom is in, but it is hard to get a space there. I usually go about 1 hour before my class to get a space.

With that said, I am the eternal optimist....and EVERYDAY I drive down the front row of parking thinking that I just might get a space. And.....sometimes I do! Today after my treatment, I drove straight to class....turned into the parking lot...and drove down that front row. A couple of my students waved to me, and as I waved back, a car pulled out of a front space, and I pulled in!

In the classroom, a student stood and asked to speak. She said that each day for the next three weeks (of my treatments) I should only come to class shortly before my class begins. And each day, a different student is going to park in a front space....because they are there very early in the morning. And as I come into the lot....they will pull out to give me a front space to save me the often long walk lugging a heavy book bag. With tears running down my cheeks....I told them once again what they mean to me.

These are your future Medical Assistants and Nurses folks. And they have learned already that kindness....not pity...it what helps heal.

Remember...its the little things you do to help someone that sometimes mean the most!

I too see these younger ones at times doing some truly unselfish actions and then see some "adult" that goes out of their way to do their d******* to s**** it up.

You have some keepers there sweetie. Bless em all.

Angel, that's a great story. Tell me where you are going to park next and I'll go a save you a front row space. Hmmm, how about a WalMart on a Saturday morning. One thing I have learned here in your blog is that you have friends everywhere who will watch out for you. I'm here for you!

This is a reflection of YOU!!

You influence more people than you have any idea!! Your caring attitude is contageous!!

The fact your students know about your situation and take such an action simply reflects how much caring they have learned from you!!

It is truly encouraging that someone is teaching compassion and caring to those medical students!!!

You are such an inspiration!!

I salute you Angel!! I salute your caring and loving attitude... I salute your spirit... I salute your strength.. I salute your BEAUTIFUL SOUL!!!

Polly....I am so touched by their caring! And I am very proud of the way they are performing in the classroom and in the externships. Many of these are women who have come back to school to better themselves for their children....single moms...etc. And they sacrifice alot to come into this program! And they are turning out to be wonderful human beings in the process!

That is so great of your students! It's amazing how so many people you now seem to come out of the woodwork to support you when you need it. And sometimes, it's from people you least expect it. Good Luck Angel! Your students also are relecting the quality of their teacher!

Those students must have recognized the same qualities of your heart we have come to know. You don’t get that kind of acknowledgment for being selfish, self centered or uncaring.

There are those that by their intrinsic design of nature bring out the finest of traits and abilities of others, and you my Dear One, are one of those.

Horny....thank you for your kind words. If I have taught them some of that...even a little....then I will feel like I've done something worthwhile. There is a lot to teach them in the textbooks....but in my opinion....you can't be in the medical field without learning to care about others above yourself.

This is truly a touching story and I know you must feel blessed to have inspired such love from your students. If we all take a little of what we've felt from this and other such acts of kindness and caring, and use it as motivation, we can and will make the world better, one small gesture at a time.

Thanks angel for reminding me of the important things.

angelofmercy5 replies on 3/17/2006 6:32 am:
Seek u.....I agree. We could all be a little more conscious of how the little things mean so much to so many. Even a smile to a stranger can change someone's outlook on their day. Thank you for stopping by my blog! I hope you come again soon.

Angel this is the first time I have been brought to tears by reading something in blogs. What a tremendous act of kindness these kids are doing, yet it is such a simple thing. You have taught them well and their love for you is so apparent. Well done Angel, and pass a hug from me on to your students. I know each will do well. Being a medical professional myself, I know the kind of compassion it takes to do the job. It is evident here.
