Should you try to help someone, when you have bad problems yourself?

It has come to pass, that I have many problems in my life. When trying to help someone, I just couldn't do or say the right things. So what do you think. Should a person try to help someone who is having problem, when you have big problems yourself?

Sometimes the best way to forget about yourself is to help another.I'm also a believer in what comes around goes around. In other words good will always find it's way back to the giver.Even if it doesn't is it a bad thing to know you helped someone else?As far as saying the right thing I've found that most of the time people just want somebody to listen and be there.Best of luck too you.

I feel that we should. I find that even though I have problems of my own helping others overcome their adversity tends to help me have renewed strength to fix my own problems. Also I find that at times the solutions I help devise for others problems help me to gain new perspectives on my own problems which help me fix them.

Always be weary of not letting your problems make their own worse in the helping....sometimes it is best simply to step back and allow someone in a better position to do so help them.....

sometimes they can better understand without the clouding of their own issues....

wyvernrose, thank you for your response. It makes a lot of sense. I tried to help someone, but I joked about something innocently, but they took it wrong, and it made me feel worse that they got upset. It didn't go far in making them feel better. I felt really bad.
