She said, she said

I had a gentleman (he IS) write to me recently. I won't quote what he said, but basically it was this. "I like standing on the outside watching, that's what I'm doing when I read blogs, it's like looking into people's souls." He didn't mean for it to but it kinda creeped me out.

I thought I was mostly talking to myself when I blog. I have people that read every post (thank you) and they've gotten to know me but I wouldn't think that even "they" would say they've seen my soul.

SO what is a soul? Is it the personality? Is it that electrical charge that snuffs out when we die?

I looked at two different dictionaries, 18 different definitions and I liked this one the best....a person's total self.

So forgive me, but you guys haven't seen my total self. I'm incapable of showing it to you. I am even incapable of showing it to me and I live here, so please don't be insulted.

Bear with me here, before you think that I am totally insane... partly, yeah, OK. Totally, no.

Have you ever been around someone and something they did drove YOU insane? You point out this flaw to them, " I hate it when you XYZ" They get a look of bewilderment on their face as they exclaim "I DON'T XYZ!"

Who is right and who is wrong? Did you just imagine that they XYZ, NOOO, you've seen them XYZ many, many times. Why are they unaware of it?

Being that I love psychology and sociology, I know the theorized answer to this. It's called Johari's Window. It theorizes that there are things about yourself that you are aware of, that others you know are aware of, that both of you are aware of, and things about you that NO ONE knows.

In keeping with this, I went to this place and dida Jahari's window of my own. You guys can help me know myself better and perhaps allow both of us to see me more clearly... you can even do one for yourself. If it doesn't show up, I will email a few of you and go from there.

So this is "copy and paste" thing ..sorry 'bout that - but I'm exhausted.
I'm just drifting in to give you my most humble gratitude for your words. Thank you from the bottom, top, sides and the very center of my heart.

Mac---Ahhh..I knew why I liked reading you. Sociology degree here.

I knew of Johari's window. It illustrates such a good point. There are things which are ovbious about me to others...then few others know the next inner layer. I think there's a layer to all of us that no one will ever be privy to; in fact, I think we don't even know ourselves.

So, cos I'm a nut for personality assessments...here's mine:

Hey Mac,
I participated in your Johari evaluation by selecting six words to describe you. I noticed "wicked" wasn't available - not that I would've used it...

There's a Nohari window too that lists bad stuff, I wasn't ready to hear that just yet

Hi
,

You sure have a very nice blog may I say
even though we do not really know well neither you, nor your blog. -sigh-
the 4 of us nevertheless agree that it's nice indeed.
But not as much as yourself of course!
And it's all only normal...

Hi Mac, I sort of understood what he might have been saying. I believe that at least I for one sometimes express myself in a different way here than I might in RL.

Mac, I went and filled it out. This is way cool. If you have one under your real name filled out by people who know you in the real world, that would be an excellent contrast.

Regarding the blogs revealing something about its author:

1. I think it depends upon the person. Some people find that this venue allows them to express their thoughts without criticisim and may be a little more honest because of it. Some would have the opposite thoughts on the matter.

2. I think you tend to get to know something about others by reading their blogs but everything? I doubt that very seriously.

3. Most blogs are centered around a particular like or dislike. I know there are people here that I admire for their expression and then there are people that after reading them for a while, I am confident are truly nuts.

Sounds a lot like those close to us that we see everyday and you think you know really well until one day...they surprise you with something new.

I guess the point is that we all are constantly changing and the world is changing around us. How could anyone know themselves or anyone else completely?

interesting Mac, very intersting .. I have to admit though I did have problems picking 6 .... I guess I just work off 2 or 3 most of the time and try not to assume much else ... although I could also see most of the others on the list applying too ... then again I am me

absolutelynormal replies on 6/14/2006 10:31 pm:
Yeah a lot of them could apply to anyone. I was surprised to get a vote of extroverted!
