The call

Ok, so I got the call last evening... You know the one. It's the one you never really expect but know will come.

Phone rings. *thinking "I don't know this area code"*

"Hello?"

"What's up shithead?" (My loving nickname given from my lovely ex fiance)

*laughing* "What's up Bitch?"

...and the conversation continues for about 20 mins.

It seems that the B-day card that I emailed her got her thinking of me. It really was just an innocent card letting her know that she's officially getting old. It was her 30th.

She has fully recovered from the substance abuse issue that she was literaly dying from. After we broke up, she tried as hard as she could to destroy herself. She went for a year and a half of doing nothing but running, partying, spending every cent she had until she was living on the streets (storage unit).

I must say that I'm completely over her, but it's really, really good to have my friend back!

There is a person in my past that I wish I could still have that kind of relationship with; I'm glad your getting yours back. Shows that there is no telling what the future will bring.

I was getting up to get a drink before posting here and my hip completely snapped in half. Damn a replacement hip at 30. Time to move in with the kids and let them take care of me.

They do say that... I think, had she not been messed up w/ that shit, that we would've made it. We talked all the time! She was my very best friend.

Yes, it does suck when the good ones get away. I don't believe I would or could ever go back to her in that way. I can say, however, that I would be more than willing to be best friends again.

I think it's part of the whole forgive and forget process. I'm just excited that I won't have to attend a funeral, that until recently, was inevitable!

I wish I could talk to my ex and everything feel like it did when we were just friends. I'm happy your happy!
I think it's important to be able to be friends of the past. I'm a firm believer that we all have relationships for a reason and that we learn from everybody. I learned a lot (too much) from this girl...

Reclaiming a friendship is a wonderful feeling. I've done that several times... not necessarily with exes, but with friends that I've had falling outs with. It feels great to put the past behind you and keep the good things alive between you.

I'm happy for your ex... that she is now clean and living somewhere other than a storage unit. I'm sure she appreciated knowing that you were still out there thinking of her on her birthday. You're a great friend.
It's always fun to rekindle past friendships. Now that she's clean, I don't feel like I have to protect her anymore. I know that she was no longer my responsibility, but I felt it I owed my love and support to her parents and kids. They were suffering more than I and it got really hard to be there for everyone, while watching one of the few loves of your life trying to kill herself!

I do hope I can ultimately be friends with my ex too. I mean you are part of that person's life - I was married for five years - got married young - and we basically grew up together. we went through a hell of a lot. I remember when I left - and I left him cause he was controlling and could be mean - I still wanted to know how he was doing, how his job was going, how his family was. you can't turn that off.

    smiles.
I wish you could just turn that stuff off, but you're right in that you can't. I still go sailing w/ her family and see her kids a lot. It's not their fault our relationship ended...

"Grown up" up of me?? Lol - Yes, unfortunately, we do have to return to the world of reality and face everyday issues. I know that I hate to, but you just gotta...
