Ooooh FFS Part 2, or please have mercy , shoot me now

Never never, ever (at risk of your sanity) try to provide computer support for an elderly family member (who by the way should have a restraining order against even being within 3 meters of a computer, much less own one) by phone.

First, the computer problem won't be solved.

Secondly, they won't even listen (amazing that even the simplest instruction will be turned into a yarn about the weather, health ailments, or other relatives).

And last but not least, you'll never get that 30 minutes (if you're lucky) of your life back (even if you were drinking a nice glass of wine at the time- it will be tainted).

Have a nice weekend all !!

Liefs Helpdesk Coffee

I stopped teaching beginner computer classes when, after the FIFTH CLASS, one of my mature students actually picked the mouse up OFF the desk to make it work and I slapped her hand and the mouse back down onto the desk. I knew that was time to give it up.

Yeah, I'm still [blog 1hotwahine]

I have a client. She is over 80. She wanted to learn "how to use a computer". We started off with basic "mouse" skills. After 8 hours she was still waving the mouse above her head and wondering why the cursor on the screen as not moving. So, Coffee, I have some sympathy for you

When I was working in IT, I had a simple black T-shirt with a logo in the starkest white: "No, I can't fix your computer".

Not that it ever stopped people asking, mind you

It's not the computer repair that they wanted. It was simply the fact that your presence gave them a chance to interact with you.

Oh dear....this has to be one of those universal experiences. I have spent more than one evening trying to "solve" some amazingly simple computer problem over the phone with my mom......grrrrrrr....

I also help a senior friend every Friday morning with her computer problems...in person, though. Amazingly it doesn't help much...I have taught the same lessons about 10 or 12 times now.

As I am getting on in age I am watching for those tell-tale signs....How did you do that again?........lol....

and you havent even mentioned the fallout that happens when they do something wrong, bugger up the computer and then blame you ........

Hows the pup settling in?
