How hard is it to make a phone call?

I put in my application for the apartment on Tuesday. I forked over $135 of my hard earned money, plus the cash for the money orders. When I turned in my materials, they asked me about my job.

They were confused. I had an employer reference from my boss at ESPN, but there was a temp agency's name on the time sheet. I explained, very plainly, that I work in a freelance capactiy, and have done so for the last seven months. Everyone in my department starts this way, and when openings become available, they promote us to full time status. For all intents and purposes, the only difference between me and 95% of the other workers at ESPN, is that I get paid weekly instead of biweekly, and there's no Disney logo on my check. They seemed satisfied, and told me they'd let me know if I was approved or not the next day.

Two days passed, nothing.

So I called them today, to check on the status. I need to know if I got the apartment soon, because my mother is trying to take some time off to help me move Labor Day weekend (that's the target). Also, my roommate/landlord needs to know, cause if I have a move date before September 6, he'll return my rent check for this month, and call us square on my security deposit (same amount of money, and I can immediately turn it around to pay the advance rent on the apartment).

So I called them, asked the status. They said they still needed to verify my employment, because there's a temp agency's name on the check! I explained this to them already. They want to know for sure that I'll be hired on permanently. What the fuck?! These shitheads are already making me pay an extra month's rent in advance because I haven't been in the job a year, and now they want to find out if I'll be hired on and when?

First of all, they have no right to this information. I don't know any more than the next guy when I'll be hired on. I won't even know when the next opening will happen until October, cause that's when our annual budgets come in. I know the next opening is mine by seniority. It's mine to lose. I'd have to either royally fuck up, or not apply for it to not get it.

Second, I already assured them that I wasn't going anywhere. In fact, my bosses have hinted that I'll be getting a raise soon, and put on a very important project. They have my income, they know how long I've been in the job, and they know that I'm up for a raise and promotion soon, but that's not good enough?

Third, they acted like it was hard to verify what information they have a right to. When my boss filled out the referral, he STAPLED HIS BUSINESS CARD TO IT! HIS MOTHERFUCKING NUMBER'S WRITTEN ON IT! CALL HIM, YOU DOUCHEBAGS!

Fourth, I've been in the job SEVEN MONTHS. What temp assignment, if it's truly a temp assignment, lasts longer than three months? And even if it was a temp assignment, what business is it of theirs? They have a right to my employers' information, my job title, and a statement of my earnings. They have no right to pass judgement on the quality of my job, or the status thereto. If they rent to me, and I lose my job, then it's on me to find a new one, and keep paying rent, or get evicted. That's my responsibility. It's not up to them to deny me housing because they're not 100% sure I'll be in my job in a year, which I will be.

Now maybe it's me. Maybe I'm retarded. But this does not make sense. It's almost as if they're discriminating against my youth, and now they're penalizing me for being paid by a temp agency. All I'm trying to do is get my own place so I can save a little money on gas. And the thing is, I know they rent to guys in my position. I have two coworkers who got apartments with these people when they were freelancing. So why is there a problem now?

I've lost a little bit of respect for him after he started doing Progressive commercials.
