Diabetes OTC/herbs

by Babadave

There isn't much that can repair your body's lost insulin production, once the Islands of Langerhans are damaged beyond repair. There are quite a few herbs that will help your body utilize the insulin that you still produce more efficiently, the herb or preparations containing the following herbs may help;
Bitter Melon, also known as Karela or Momordica Charantia is a herb that helps regulate blood sugar levels and keeps body functions operating normally. It contains Gurmarin, a polypeptide considered to be similar to bovine insulin, which has been shown in experimental studies to achieve a positive sugar regulating effect. Gymnema sylvestre suppresses the taste of sugar taking the fun and temptation out of snacking on sweets. The following are old European herbs and treatments for diabetes
Bilberry (Vaccinium mytillus)
Garlic (Allium sativum)
Goat's Rue (Galega officinalis)
Mulberry Leaves (Morus nigra)
Olive Leaves (Olea europaea)
There are several from the Philipines too;
Banaba (Lagerstroemia speciosa)
Ampalaya (Momordica charantia, bitter mellon mentioned above)
Chromium picolinate(cheap at Wal-mart or wherever)helps you regulate your sugar levels taking some of the load off your insulin supply.
Daily vitamin supplimentation helps your body manufacture and utilize all of it's resources lessening the need for 'bursts' of insulin.
Exercise. Yep, you gotta get off your butt and get some exercise! Even if you have a job where you stand or walk around all day you still need to do enough every day to break a sweat or at least breathe hard awhile.
Diet. Ok, 'a diet' is hard to deal with but changing your diet to include foods that will help you with your diabetes is a great way to manage it. Apples are great snacks, oranges have been shown to increase blood flow to the penis(and clitoris)by 20%, lots of fresh vegetables taste sweet and will stop your craving for something with starch and sugar. You know what to do, do it.
There isn't a cure, but there is management, you can do it and lessen your need for medications and slow the damage to your body that diabetes is known for....
DON'T STOP YOUR DOCTOR'S MEDS UNLESS HE SAYS THAT YOU NEED LESS MEDICATION OR DON'T NEED IT ANYMORE. You may not need medication anymore after getting in shape, using these herbs and suppliments, but don't play with this disease, be sure your blood sugar is at a good level, take care of yourself.
