the nerve of people

so we get this email the other day

titled: Excuse Me
Since when puerto rican is considered a race? Most of my Puerto Rican friends are caucasian, blue eyed and some are even blonde(real blonde)?

so we wrote back
thank you for sharing your ignorance with us, all we are left to wonder is why bother to do so in the first place.

figuring that would be the end of it, but no we of course got a reply from them.

first of all...Puerto Rican is a national situation...Puerto Rico has been blessed with many races...YOU are the ignorant...not willing to learn...take your case to a good University professor and they will agree with us...this is not a who wins situation, but your attitude really leaves a lot to be desired... can you tell me about my ignorance? you are the one that points to a Puerto Rican ignorant can you be...have you ever visited this beautiful island? most of the Americans in this town are really ignorant about Puerto Rico and the status of its denizens... and statements like yours do not help...

can you believe the nerve of these people? we were just amazed at this. Out of the blue, never had any contact with this couple before, and bam!!!

we wrote back this
Take your case to any Puerto Rican and they will tell you that they are Hispanic not Caucasian!!!!!! Last we checked being Hispanic is a Race, and that is her race, Puerto Rican is her nationality, we figured people would be smart enough to know that when you say someone is Puerto Rican that they would know that they are Hispanic. And yes I have been to Puerto Rico plenty of times, most of my family is still there, and guess what none of them consider themselves to be caucasians, or even resemble them. Your Ignorance stems from writing someone you dont know at all the telling them that they are something that they are not! An enlightened individual would have left their opinions and beliefs to themselves(especially when they are as wrong as yours) And our attitude stems directly from your initial comments to us, and the lack of respect that they showed us, you expect someone to answer back to you nicely after what YOU initially wrote??? maybe you should go back and reread it, and check yourself before you start throwing stones.

what would you all have done?? do you think they are right? are puerto ricans caucasians???

Or you could be like most puerto rican's and be Hispanic..... the point of frustration wasnt what kind of puerto rican i think i am, it's that this couple had the nerve to tell me what i am, I am what I say I AM!!! not what I am told..... Then it was further flamed by them coming off all high and mighty like they werent the ones who emailed first with a snotty attitude imposing their beliefs on us.

We all have a variety of nationalities in us usually, there are exceptions however, but regardless of that many variables in race, sex etc.but people who dont understand that shouldnt bother writing to others when they themselfs dont understand that or better yet keep there opinions or beliefs to themselfs.
