NEWPORT NEWS VIRGINIA PARK VISITORS WARNED TO BE AWARE OF COTTONMOUTHS

Being a Redneck Virginian liv'n in the Blue Ridge Mountain region, we are used to dealing with all kinds O critter's,just a part of everyday life.
I come accross this article in the news paper about cotton mouth snakes the other day & being that I love snakes all my life & have several myself, I thought I would share the article here.

Newport News VA:

This spring, visitors to Newport News Park can expect a new message on signs: BEWARE OF COTTONMOUTHS.

Signs warning visitors of the poisonous pit vipers will go up in areas where the snakes are known to live in the park, one of the largest municipal parks in the nation. They'll provide educational advice in addition to warning hikers to beware and not venture off the beaten path.

Rangers have known for decades that cottonmouths have nestled into the park's swampy corners. But they had no idea they had so many slithering so close to a remote, but viable, trail called the Wynn's Mill Loop.

Authorities have discovered the snakes are coiling up in decaying pine tree stumps, dangerously close to where people may be out for a walk.

The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries has not found cottonmouths north or west of Colonial Heights, which is just south of Richmond near Petersburg. In Virginia, most cottonmouths, also called water moccasins, are found south of the James River.

Cottonmouths are the hallmark of scaly critters in the southeastern United States, turning up in plenty of campfire stories.

This story was in The Roanoke Times: Jan. 06

I never had a cottonmouth for a pet, but I have had my run ins with them many times in my life while fish'n. I have kept copperheads in the past, but have none now.

I have my redtail Boa, he is not aggressive at all, most of the time when I have him out of the tank he just lays on my shoulder. I made him a tree stand out of a brach of an oak tree & some 3/4 inch shelving pine thats about 5 ft tall in my living room that he likes to spend hours at a time in front of the picture window taken in the sun.

Is there anyone on AdultFriendFinder that shares my love of snakes?
