Ladies, why do you put a tattoo on your back?

OK, so I'm a little out of touch and out of the country for way to long. But... I like tattoos, I have one on my arm like many people in this world. I agree that they can put tattoos where they will but, why down there?

Ladies, why do you have a tattoo on your lower back side?
Gives my partner/spouse something to talk about at parties/work.
Provides me with added stimulation during sex.
Makes men think twice before doing the-wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am!
It's just a fad, everyone does it!
None of your freakin' business and stop looking at my ass!
My partner really gets off seeing my tattoo when he is back there
I'm like Micheal Jackson, my body is an empty canvas.....paint me!
Guys look there anyway so, here is something else to look at.

It was great when it was new, but when everyone started doing it....
i remember the 2nd or 3rd year Maxim was out, and Jaime Pressley was on the cover, she had this beautiful tatoo on her backside, very well done, in aqua blue, green and black. It was, of course, chinese lettering that had special meaning for her. And that made the tatoo even better.

Unfortunately, a couple issues later, this kid and his girlfriend sent in a picture to Maxim of how they loved Jaime's tattoo so much that they gave the picture to a tatoo artist and had him ink her backside with it. It could have been beautiful if you didn't know why it was there or what it was trying to imitate. Because it was an imitation, the flaws in the tatoo were that much more pronounced.. it was like someone had committed forgery upon this young woman's backside, and it made me cringe to look at it. The poetry of Jaime's tatoo was lost, the meaning was rendered non-existent not only by it being a copy but by the copyist not knowing what he was writing.

Again, it was beautiful on its own... but its beauty was stripped away by the knowledge of its conception and its execution. I felt bad for the young woman. I hope she didn't do it to try to hold onto her man. They were only college kids, after all... and we all know how relationships go in college.

I'd never get a tattoo just to fit in. It has to have meaning, and not just 'ooo, tweety would look cute here!' A tatoo is permanent. It should be something you can live with.
