Making First Contact

I don't approach women in public at all. All I do is Internet introductions. Why? In person, I don't know if she is available, or what she is looking for if she is. And some women who didn't outright reject me, would just take the attention and flirt, without any intention to get involved in anything. And I'd pretty much have to rule out married women for the in-person approach. Wouldn't want that high percentage of harsh rejection. That would also mean I'd have to train myself to look at ring fingers! The other thing is it's just a little awkward to introduce myself and then immediately (like I'd want) or soon after (to show a little more grace) ask if she is looking for a man. When meeting on the I'net, the only wasted effort comes when being stood up. It's so much more efficient.

I'd love to see any opposing points of view. Keep in mind this is the guy's side of first contact.
