The best ever........

Is babylon 5 the best sci-fi series ever?

(BTW, this is my first poll so bear with me eh? )
Yes
Of course it is silly
Definitely
Indupitably
Unquestionably so
Without a "shadow" of a doubt
It sure effin is chuck (regional response for yorkshire folks lol)
It muvva fcukin is dawg (hoodies stab the screen here)
Giggles, more giggles, I'm stunning, what was the question? (specially for blondes that one lol)
(lefties and new labour voters) We must assess the rights of people who like other shows incase they are offended

Even if the last year kind of fell apart on it. Even then, they had some great shows that year.

I still want to see a continuation of that world. Crusade doesn't count. Once I got over the disappointment of Crusade not being a continuation of B5 I liked it better, but it wasn't what I wanted at the time....

Well if you watch "A call to arms" and one of the episodes in series 5 (cant remember which) it strictly speaking was a kind of follow on/off shoot. but I get your drift with it being lacking

Thing is that as I understand it B5 had all 110 45 minute episodes scripted before the first was made meaning there was a complete story throughout as well as the series legnth side plots and the 1 or two episode side plots, that combined with the believability and "ordinaryness" of the technology and the ordinaryness and flawed nature of the characters made it stand out from the rest IMO

Did you see the "Legend of the rangers - To live and die in starlight"? As I understand it that should also have been a spin off series which I reckon might have had more appeal but it didnt even get as far as becoming a short hald season trial

Yeah, the thing was all set up as a five year series when it started. But then during season 4, it looked like there wasn't going to be a season 5, so they hurried up and finished off all of the long term plots. Then, when there was a season 5, and he(JMS)'d lost one of his primary characters, he had to do a lot of vamping. Not that it wasn't still entertaining, but still, something had been lost.

And after two failed attempts at other series, now he seems to be writing comic books for a living...

There was actually a rumour I heard that B5 as a concept was commissioned to have been the replacement for Startrek the next generation and was offered to them based on them being cheaper than the 1 million dollars per episode approximately that TNG was costing

Its rumoured that the people making TNG then said they would cease making any further TNG effects and as they has some copyright over the objects and computer graphics being used had them over a barrel so the B5 production team were paid off and allowed to keep and reuse what they had already done as long as no obvious similarities or cross ties to the startrek brand was apparent

Now comparing B5 to Deep space 9 there are a hell of a lot of similarities one being space station based, two about being a central hub for any species, three the interstellar travel (worm hole vs jump gates) not to mention the underlying threats of a powerful adversary in both and the ethereal status of the main character in each (the emissary vs "the one") to name but a few

Never could make my mind up as to whether that was simply someone seeing the vast amount of similarities and theorising or whether there was any credulity in it as its not something that sounds impossible, have you heard any of that?
