Where would I be without Google? Or the internet?There is nothing like it for a guy with either undiagnosed ADD or high idea flow with a little obsessive compulsive behavior thrown in.
I collect quotations and pieces of prose - have for years.I own numerous quote books and have filled several books of my own personal collection.
Yesterday I found the 37 Quotations, in No Particular Order, of Doug Dyment, a Canadian computer guy.Paydirt!
Doug's collection is great!Some oldies but goodies, some new discoveries. Let me share my favorites:
Avoid people with no sense of humour. They have bad heads, bad hearts, or both
Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, to make it possible.
T. E. Lawrence, from the suppressed introductory chapter to "Seven Pillars of Wisdom
It is never too late to be what you might have been.
George Eliot (Marian Evans Cross)
There are only three things in life that matter: binding up the wounds, to avoid wounding, and to improve the view from the window.
David Deacon, Canadian poet, Toronto 1994
We dance round in a ring and suppose,
But the Secret sits in the middle and knows.
Robert Frost, in "A Witness Tree", 1942
It is spring;
The groundhog comes out of his hole and sees a shadow;
It's the shadow of my right front tire;
That means winter will last another six weeks;
But not for him.
Steve Smith ("Red" in "The Red Green Show")
On The Dunes
If there is any life when death is over,
These tawny beaches will know much of me,
I shall come back, as constant and as changeful
As the unchanging, many-colored sea.
If life was small, if it has made me scornful,
Forgive me; I shall straighten like a flame
In the great calm of death, and if you want me
Stand on the sea-ward dunes and call my name.
Sara Teasdale, from the book "Flame and Shadow"
We only see,
From pictures in the mind,
And they are always,
From a biased interpreter.
The factory of the future will have only two employees: a man and a dog. The man will be there to feed the dog. The dog will be there to keep the man from touching the equipment.
That my blogging friends is some damn good stuff...posted for your enjoyment and edification by the older and hopefully wiser TomEBoy 10
