Death of the Dirty Joke

That was the title of a recent NYTimes article about the movie the Aristocrats. This is a movie where numerous stand up comics tell the same joke - supposedly the dirtiest joke ever. And the more disgusting the set up, the better it is.I have heard the joke but haven't caught the movie yet but have it on my list. I absolutely love stand up comedy and have since I was young.I remember catching Young Comics on HBO years ago as a kid with Rodney Dangerfield as the MC.Years ago Carson and Letterman always had on new comedians.I caught Dave Attell the first time he was on and was blown away by his set.Today Leno has the most comedians while Letterman has a few.Stand up went through a phase where every town had a club and there were programs on numerous channels.I am glad HBO is running their Stand Up Series again (Bill Burr was tremendous this past week) and XM has a 24 hour comedy channel of uncensored routines from past and present stand ups.I get to hear Robin Harris,Sam Kingston,Rodney Dangerfield, Bill Hicks and numerous others all day and night if I want.My favorites are still Attel,Richard Jeni,Robert Shimmel, but I am always on the lookout for new talent. The one thing I have noticed is comics do not tell dirty jokes any more as they did in the past.It is more observational humor. In the right hands thats alright with me but I miss the dirty jokes we used to pass on when someone asked....heard a good joke lately?

I wish I had cable. It sounds like I am missing out on some great comedian acts. I always loved watching the comedians growing up as well; but, observed lately that there are fewer around these days. My observation may be askewed slightly, if all the comedians are being aired on cable these days.

the dirty joke is alive and well just hiding even on cable as they all hope to go mainstream like Seinfeld and Degeneres.
