A Point To Ponder

Man is the only animal that laughs and weeps ; for he is the only animal that is struck with the difference between what things are and what they ought to be.

"struck with the difference between what things are and what they ought to be"

is it a punishment or a reward

that's what i want to know

.

It seems to me being struck with the difference between what things are and what they ought to be must occur in order for change to occur, both on a grand scale, i.e. Civil Rights Movement, and a more personal level, altering eating habits to lower cholesterol.
(My mind's jukebox is playing Led Zepplin's "What Is and What Should Never Be")

My doggies cry, they laugh and smile..."We" are not so different. And I agree with UV....it is about soul growth. We ache and weep when our soul's needs - "What is right", "what we must do" can no longer be avoided and our soul's push up through our skin, showing us what change is needed. Growing pains.

Remember the Starfish. There may still be a number on the beach but I make a difference to the one I returned to the ocean. If enough of us each throw back those Starfish, eventually the beach would be cleared
